Icon suggested that I go with a Firestone airbag set up to help . Or should I bit the bullet and get the Deaver Expedition pack ? What are your guys thoughts

I might be wrong about this, but I'm thinking both airbags and a new leaf pack. IMO, you should have an overload in your leaf pack. Besides Deaver, Dobinsons might even have a heavier pack than this one. @Crikeymike I also think you'd like Hammer Hangers with that much weight. :notsure: GL!

Don’t take this the wrong way but have you considered leaving some of the extra junk home that really isn’t needed? Maxtraxx, trasharoo, pelican cases on the roof, Jerry cans etc

That said it depend on what you are trying to really accomplish. I run stage III Deavers and they are awesome.

Oh there will be some mods all right
You should try these out, the guys on the iron Man thread were getting big lift numbers with not enough weight in the bed like 4.5". For your setup it might work great https://ironman4x4america.com/toyota-tacoma-2005-rear-leaf-springs-kit-constant-load-440lbs-gvm/

Yes , hammer hangers are in the near future for sure , thanks for the response. I have all the leafs in the RXT , so I think the 1k rated will be the way to go , what I didn’t show was why this is also so heavy . Lol

The air bags are a huge help. You can install them yourself in about 2 hours. I needed a vehicle lift to get the last 2 assembly bolts in because just didn’t have the access angles laying on the ground. 60lbs of air gave me 1.5”-1 3/4” lift. Was always having to readjust the headlights. They only weigh a few small pounds so you get the best bang for your buck there if weight is an issue and you want to stay level.

I’m in the same boat. RXT pack on the ‘Stage 3’ setting (all the leafs), and it’s barely level when loaded down. A decked system full of parts, tools and recovery gear stays in the bed full time(~350lbs). I have a hoist to remove the bedrack and rtt but it still probably remains on the truck half the time.

I wonder how airbags do wheeling and hard articulation... i don’t know if those would work with a shock relocation and 12” shocks... yet again I’ve done zero research on bags

Put that thing on a diet. I'm reasonably sure you don't need all that stuff. Sure, its nice to have, but sometimes you just need to "ruff it" a little.

We pulled a pop-up camper for many years, (3 females, 1 male), loaded with less gear. The ladies needed all kinds of stuff that would be used for about 10 minutes in a week long trip. I never could fathom why they couldn't survive the 10 minutes without the doodad.

Airbags are really only a bandaid. Keep in mind, your truck payload is only 975lbs (or so), and that number is largely determined why how much weight the axle can safely carry. New leafs, with an overload are a better option than airbags. Making sure you aren't overloading your overlander is the most important thing you can do.
