Tired of listening to the rear view mirror making cracking sounds every time I adjust it. Thinking if I can separate the front and back of the clamshell I can work some magic with Tesa tape and tighten / pad things. Has anyone opened this up? I imagine it is just a pry job with the trim removal tool but wanted to ask before I went the brute force route. Thanks.

Nothing huh? I'm about to embark on the same disassembly to replace with a dashcam/mirror. Any thoughts?

Well, I just jumped right into it and there are approx. 8 clips inside the housing holding the trim. A wedge and flat knife popped it all apart for me. I started at the top of the mirror so any dings or scrapes would be harder to see from the seats.
