Rear view mirror fix

There's this little plastic clip on the back on the mirror that broke. You can see it in the pic below. Messing around with it, but doesn't seem like this plastic clip comes off, does it? I can get the metal spring out (almost lost an eye doing it). But without forcing anything too much and breaking it more than it already is, figured I'd ask around. Or am I just stuck having to get a new mirror all together?
