    I have a 2012 with 69k on the clock.

I have only owned it for 6 months and 4k miles. bought from Louisiana so history is unknown.

I have a right rear wheel bearing bad and here comes the question.

Should I go ahead and replace the left rear while its in the shop? They will cut me a deal on labor so its enticing. And if im going to do both rears I might as well put new rear brake shoes on and have drums machined since shoe replacement will have no labor cost as its part of doing the bearings

    All advice and opinions accepted.

    Thank you

I would just replace the bad side. Save some money.
definitely have them replace the axle seal also.

No labor costs I would slap the other bearing in for sure…

My right one was bad on my Tundra (same system). I did the job myself.

Brakes, rotors, pads and new bearings/seals both sides was $795.

I had the local auto shop press off and on the new bearings.

I did not want original equipment bearings (Toyota). I figured one went bad, why would I put the same ones in. Shop gave me a 5k warrenty if they failed. They have gone 150k with no issues.

It's an easy job removing the axles.

no I may have mispoke. no labor charge for the brake shoe install. it would be 578 parts and labor for one side and 1066 parts and labor for both sides.

Big thing is doing the axle seals.

Honestly it's probably fine, but if one is gone, the other is going to go soon.

Do both, new seals, new fluid. Rear is good to go for another 10 years.

that was kind of my thought process. too bad i just did the fluids but a minor cost

I know how this goes. If I dont replace both it will go out two weeks later. If I do replace both then (without knowing) the other bearing would have gone to 200k

I just did one on a 2006 with 250k miles. (both axle seals blew, plugged breather)

IT SUCKED. Everything seized, oil sprayed everywhere. Miserable.

You are making the right choice.

I wouldn't worry about replacing the good side.

I had an OEM fail on me last year. Replaced only that one side.

20,000 miles later, I've had to replace the aftermarket one again, while the original OEM one is still good.

Make sure the shop is installing quality bearings.

Just replace both. They have both done about the same miles. Then when both of your non OEM bearings fail, you can replace them in tandem again.

Correct- I am not a fan of aftermarket bearings (or parts in general, unless they proven to be better than OEM). These pieces cost a considerable amount to replace, mainly in time/labor that the cost the parts is fairly negligible. Ya gotta figure that replacing the bearings twice is less expensive than replacing them once.

im just not too impressed with factory ones out at 69k miles. doesnt mean aftermarket are better. Just makes me a little apprehensive to buy toyota parts
