My rear wheels sit off center, further back in the wheel well. Both wheels sit at the same distance in their proper wheel wells. Noticed some other first gens look the same. Is this something that I need to address or just ignore it?

This is an issue that affects a good number of 1st gen Tacomas. I don't know why (I don't think anyone does), but I'd say something around 30-50% suffer from this.

If it isn't causing you any problems (rubbing tires on the wheel wells/flares/flaps) then you don't need to worry about it at all - it doesn't affect anything from a drivability perspective.

If you upgrade to larger tires in the future, you can get an adapter that moves the center pin forward just a bit (or adapts the leaf pack forward a bit) or you can get a custom leaf pack that centers the wheels in the wells.

I went the latter route for my truck, you can read about what happened to me, here: Updating the Alcan Leaf Pack

There are a series of posts that lead up to that, if you're interested in those as well,
Happy to answer questions if you have any.
