Didn't even think this was possible. Was out doing some light off roading yesterday and hit a bump a bit harder than I expected. I heard a loud popping sound but didn't really think anything of it until I took the next turn and heard the sound of glass tinkling behind me. Turns out I blew out the passenger side rear windshield. The middle and driver side are both fine. Any idea how this might have happened? It doesn't look like the canopy could have made contact.

Picture taken post clean-up, didn't think to get one while I was out on the trail.

The cab may have made contact with the shell, that's my guess

This is what is known in the off-road community as “ EORT “……… excessive off road torque

Could be, especially since he just created another thread about breaking the front mounting point on the shell.

I though about that but the canopy is still pretty secure and can't be moved forward at all.

Your trucks frame flexed enough to either let the cap to hit the rear window. Or enough flex could have broken the glass. even if you hadn't had a cap.

Crazy. Is there any other potential damage I should be worried about?

On my 3rd gen, the windshield will creak if it's super hot out and I take a corner at just the right speed with a dip in the street.

I'd guess the shell hit the cab or the cab flexed too much when you were driving around.

To be fair, you can't possibly replicate what the trail does by hand. You can't move it, but you can't make your frame flex the way a trail does either. Trying to compare it while static in a parking lot or driveway, or even just a different part of the trail doesn't do much.

That said, I think the most likely thing would be glass got a bit of torsion applied, and then an impact or drop on the trail made the glass pop. That, or there was a flaw or weak point in the glass and just the torsion made it break.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Good time to remove both the cab and cap winders and make it a pass thru.

Ideally the pass through would have an accordion style connection so it would be water tight.

Put a rubber gasket between the two and you’re good. You’ll save about 30 lbs, too.
