    So, funny thing...

I took the taco in to get the third brake light assembly replaced for this leak issue (yep...whole assembly). The damn thing wasn’t working at all apparently.

Once complete, it still leaked (long stupid story short). The fix? A decent mechanic pulled the headliner again and found one of the two nuts wasn’t tight. A gravity fed water test was successful after that. I’m between roof racks at the time, so choosing to NOT go through the car wash just yet.

Can you elaborate - did this resolve the issue? Found a leak yesterday, I reached up and could slightly move the lens of the brake light. A repair shop had my headliner out for windshield replacement and the cab was repainted, I'm curious if the 3rd brake is loose or gasket failing.

It did resolve the issue, at least with running water over the brake light assembly. However, I’ve not run it through the car wash yet. I still need to get a good plug solution for the mount holes before doing so until my new rack arrives.

    sup dude!

They say at this point they found a broken bolt on the 3rd brake light. The interior is pulled
apart in the bay :( as they check for any water damage. Manager said they'd take care of it
all and work something out as well if the big sub box is ruined..... Funny, he started the convo
commenting on my balintawak shirt, moved to the blackbelt (with all the stripes) sitting in the
truck with knives and kali sticks and said - rest assured we'll take care of everything :D

I've had so many issues with this 2016 and have come in there pretty worked up before
    after the 3rd..4th... 7th,.... 12th.... issue.

Sup! Fortunately for me I have only had the tranny fluid, crank sensor and leaking diff issues. So far really nothing else.

that's great man. I think this is issue # 13 or 14 for me and just knowing they
gutted the interior at the dealer does not sit well but we shall see. Part is supposed to
be in tomorrow but I don't have an ETA on getting it back due to the water everywhere
and I'm not real confident on all the water stains vanishing - tacos have always retained
water stains on the seats even from small amounts. As long as they're willing to fix
what was damaged I won't have an issue with it.

Man that sucks. I get pissed when I have to go in for simple things because I feel I shouldn't have to but you know with new models and all. Hopefully everything works out with this issue you're having.

Had anybody been able to pinpoint the Tacomas this might be hitting? Like year? Location of assembly?

    It’s happened to 2016 and 2017s....

I’d say for anyone who is reading this keep an eye out or just get your garden hose and point it at your 3rd break light.

that may not be enough for some ( like me ). I never had the issue even after 2.5 years
but the last week brought storms here that were unreal the down pour caused extreme
flooding everywhere - until this storm, never had a drop of water back there.

Location of assembly has nothing to do about the brake light leaking. The problem was the packing of the gaskets. Some were pinched during packing causing the leaks.

haha..... that's what I thought man, I hadn't seen that issue, I can
only assume they loosened up more and more over time and the
super storms we just had blasted right in there. so f'n disappointing
opening the door last week and seeing water running everywhere!

It seems like they should easily be able to track down which gaskets went where and notify those owners.

I've always heard that something was torqued down to much by a robot during the installation process which also could easily have been pinpointed to when and where.

I check mine every time I wash it. I even hit it with the sweeper tip on my hose to try and make it leak. Non so far.

Same here and never saw a drop so I assumed I was not one of the
ones with the issue. Hoping for some good news today when the repair
    and test it.

I thought the TSB or Recall on it said the problem was caused by incorrect torque which damaged the gaskets.
