Can the rearveiw mirror on a 3rd gen be deleted without causing any problems with other systems? Not the TSS sensors, only the rear view mirror

I'm looking into getting an AluCab canopy camper which would make the rearview mirror useless. I'd like to permanently remove it to help improve my view.

I looked through the wiring diagram for the mirror and it looks like it doesnt need to be there.

    Any thoughts?

EDIT: I do not care about the legality of removing the mirror. I know it's generally not legal. Doesn't matter.

Won't affect anything unless you have the homelink mirror, you'll obviously lose that feature.
If you don't mind that then I say go for it!

    Would that fail state inspection?

Rear view mirrors are required by law.

    From Ohio- no state inspections
I mean yes but...it's more like a guideline lol I doubt anyone's going to give me trouble for not having a rear-view mirror to look back at a solid black wall of aluminum.

You can still get pulled over by a Trooper for roadside inspection.

hey, im all for you doing what you want to do... I use my rear view mirror constantly if an ambulance or fire truck is coming my way, Rear view mirror helped me brace for the woman who totaled my last vehicle. I recommend them.

Where would we all be able to hang our fuzzy dice without it though :)

shouldn’t effect any sensors removing it and now you will have a bigger spot for your Dashcam

AluCab canopy camper completely blocks the back. Solid wall of aluminum, no glass. Mirror would be useless.

I believe as long as you have side mirrors, you should be legal. I drove a work van or years that didn't have a rear view mirror (or even a place to hang one), never had issues.

He did say he was putting up a wall of aluminum which would render his RVM useless.

Worked at a place with a fleet of box trucks. Not one of them had a rear view mirror. And why would they?

One point, the unit pictured is removable. I’d check state regs.

And remember cops sometimes use things like that as reasons to stop you.

How do box trucks, semi trucks, cargo vans etc.. use a rear view mirror?

Some vehicles now are coming with rearview cameras instead of mirrors. The mirror exists, but it’s a camera feed. It actually makes a lot of sense since you can get a wider fov. I’m sure the aftermarket exists for this too.

But for the OP, I say pull it off.

Tractor trailers ususally have 2 sets of mirrors per side. Thats how.

"If a load or trailer obscures the driver's normal view through the rear window, the vehicle must have two additional rear view mirrors, one on each side of the vehicle"

In my state, only two mirrors are required with at least one adjustable from the driver seat.

This^^. I would purchase an aftermarket Rear View Camera so you can see the rear exactly like having the real thing. My friend bought one of those for his vehicle on Amazon and it works pretty good. It mounts to the existing mirror.
