That must be fresh news, this from 12/20/13 call for the same 2.7L.

Toyota will not be redesigning the Tacoma in 2015. I mean if they were they would have said something at an auto show this year. Plus the Tacoma got a refresh just 2 years ago so I would be banking on 2016 or later for a redesign.

im sorry but the rocky mountains especially the cottonwood canyons are no where near as steep and winding as canyons in cali.

little cottonwood canyon is one of the most dangerous roads in the nation which also has one of my most visiting snowboarding resorts

Don't you mean that they're more steep than California?

This reminds me of the "what is the point of a 2x4 truck when I can get a 4x4" discussion...

Your thinking is certainly in line with the current automotive world's thinking, but for me, additional gears mean additional moving parts, more shifts over time, and usually no real world gain in fuel mileage. You're right that you'd have better gearing for certain situations, but I prefer simplicity, which usually also means a better chance at longevity. The peak of the gearing insanity to me is Chrysler's (Fiat's) 8 speed auto.... Of course I started out with 2 and 3 speed autos, so 4 still seems like a lot....lol.

I'll just put in the "I'm a cheap fucker and you don't get cheaper/lighter/simpler/better MPG that a 2.7 5-speed fleet truck with window cranks and no bells & whistles" argument here and go "This is me!"

    +1 :) Cheap f**kers rule.

Bought my last new cheap base model 5 lug Tacoma work truck for under $10k cash out the door. Drove it for 17 years. Sold it for $4k cash to the first person who came to look at it because it was in excellent mechanical condition.

Bought another new cheap base model 5 lug Tacoma work truck for $19 cash out the door. Minus what I got for the old one, this one cost me only $15K.

This is how you run a business... ;)

It's ok, I knew what you meant. :)

I'm sure our canyon roads here aren't near as intimidating as yours. But even at that, I'll bet my 4 would do just fine because it has an edge...

Not only is it powering the smallest lightest truck with light alloy wheels and low rolling resistance passenger car tires, it's also not dragged down by any power robbing accessories like power steering and air conditioning and an automatic transmission. Just one short simple belt runs the water pump and alternator. This way the little engine only has to move the truck. I also added long tube headers and an intake manifold spacer which together lowered the torque peak down to only 2,900 rpm.

So the combination of all of these factors actually make for a pretty peppy vehicle. ;)

We'll likely know within a week. The NAIAS in Detroit is a popular show to showcase off new vehicles and they start letting in credentialed press tomorrow, and the public on the 18th.

It's been a few years since I went there. I kind of miss it. Cobo Hall with hundreds upon hundreds of shiny vehicles = drool. But the traffic downtown SUCKS.

Cause there weren't any 2.4 manuals available in Florida at the time.

I drove five hours to get THIS one with 4K on the odo for $17K

Finally got my junk cat off and it runs so much better. Hopefully I'll see the mpgs everyone else is getting. I'm tired of only getting as much as 15 combined.
