Hate to say it but I have a 2.7. At the time, I bought it because I was compensating for my abnormally huge penis! There I said it...feels so liberating!;)

I was agreeing with you. Maybe I should've worded the beginning different. Haha but yeah and Kase if you are referring more weight to the difference in having a 2.7 or 4.0 then I'd say there's nothing behind that statement. Not sure on motor weights exactly but I'm sure that 4.0 doesn't weigh more then #100 more. That would be like taking your truck, throwing a couple sand bags in it, and magically turning it into a towing rig. Well .... I guess nothing's impossible. ;)

Just do the front of an X vs the front weight of a base extra cab. 3850 for a 2013 X and 3615 for the access cab 2tr 5 spd.

I pulled out a 2010 tundra with my 4 banger in 4L, and I pulled a ranger out of a deep deep ditch. Both times I was on hard ground though. I have seen two F150s with 33" swampers, both with locked diffs, sink all 4 tires down to the frame. Bigger engines does not mean better performance in all situations.

I think towing is the strong point for the V6. But I also think that a lot of people test drive new 2.7's and come away thinking its a dog, never considering that new engines have to break in. Once I had about 10,000 on the odo, my truck had broken in nicely and was much more peppy than when brand new.

If you have heavy toys and tow a lot, get the V6. You can't go wrong with either.

bug screen, window guards, Timbrens, extra D rings; brake controller, Hidden Hitch, kayak rack,
I installed the Timbrens when I had to deliver a Northern Lite camper for a friend. The weight of the camper was a tad more than I figured the truck could handle without something. They worked well on the journey and certainly wouldn't want to have gone without them. Talking with my friends here they all like the Timbrens better than air bags.

I use the truck for hauling lots of stuff up to the cabin I'm building on a gravel road and it's a nice ride with no sagging in the back.

My sister just installed air bags in her '13 DC 6 cyl that has the tow package so I'll see how she likes them. Timbrens were easy to install without a hoist or jack.

for me, it was a budget issue. i could afford to spend X amount. i wanted the tacoma access cab. only the base 4x2 fit the budget at that point in time. my choices were reg cab 4x4 or access 4x2. i took the space.

i could upgrade to a v6 and 4x4 now if i wanted, but no need to take on debt or drain the bank account.

Yeah that ain't enough difference to mean much in the mud. That must be engine and trans weight difference and a bunch of little things that go along with them. Yes power is a helpful thing sometimes in mud but if you are geared correctly with whatever size tire you run, use 4lo for what it is intended for (massive amounts of torque) and run the right tires then you can lead and keep up with anyone else, no matter what size motor they have

Cool video and it's neat to see a Subaru with front and rear axle swap. Or do you think it's just a Subaru body on a older Toyota truck frame?

hahaha that thing is badass!!! I need a pos like that as a dedicated crawler! That thing is pimp shit!!! and yeah that shows my point. It took only the motor running to make enough power to do that. haha

I think it's still a suby frame, has a boxer motor in it. He does have a cage all throughout too, if you look closley. It's fucking rad because all he has to do is roll up the windows if it starts raining.
Yeah, that legacy wagon is tits, makes me wish I picked up one of those instead of my sammi.

Yeah no shit. That wagon is so uncommon that even if it was the gayest car alive on the street, it would be the pimpest thing off-road. Sammi on the other hand .......... Gay either way :D

My dad drove this after he sold his chevy
    [IMG]

My mom and pop's went to buy a justy at the dealer a few weeks later and ended up with this instead. My mom fell in love at first glance. 5spd, turbo, 4door variant, locking transfer 50/50 split. Car was dope. Pretty sure the RX was the predecessor to the Impreza. And they wonder why my favorite car is an Impreza or that my truck looks like a subaru.
