Where are you located? I’m interested in buying if you’re thinking about selling. It would look great next to my Tacoma.IMG_2258.jpg

That's helpful to know... will look into used engines here in Washington state.. parting it out is the least desirable option though it may be the most financially beneficial..

That's a great looking truck.. I live in Washington state.. definitely thinking about selling.. but still deciding on selling as is or getting a new engine for it to get it up and running again before selling or keeping it..

Do you have any idea what’s wrong with the engine?

Not exactly.. the shop that services it said when the hooked it up to the diagnostics it threw multiple codes.. never asked what they were for.. it was a rebuild that gave out after about 120000 miles..

Do you have a smartphone or iPad? If yes, I would highly encourage you to get a BlueDriver code reader. This will tell you what’s going on with your truck. Don’t just give up. This is an opportunity for you to learn how to work on your truck. Plus this forum has plenty of members that have experience and knowledge to help you out.

I learned how to work on cars out of necessity, now it’s a hobby.

Especially if it's a second vehicle for you. You very well may manage to get it running for a fraction of the cost of a motor replacement.

Also I just want to echo what @jrallan26 said: there's so many extremely knowledgeable and helpful members on this site, that most people with half a brain could fix nearly anything that goes wrong on these trucks simply by asking their questions here and following the advice TW members offer them. Good luck with whatever route you go with the truck!

This forum and the members here are amazing.. so knowledgeable and helpful.. the thought of doing the work myself is a good one.. though I'm not sure I'll go that route.. open though to everything at this point.. the truck is too nice to give up on it.. I love the new 2023 Tacoma I just purchased but miss driving the 2004...which is like an old glove that fits perfectly.. going to take my time and see what's our there for a used engine... will definitely look into that app as I'd like to know what happened with the rebuild that went out..

    OME and worth every penny.
Wait for a junkyard engine or JDM. Rebuilt imports are always a crapshoot as parts are to high and factory robots don't know how to cut corners.
