Just bought a 99 taco with 205k on the dash. My plan is to build a nice off-roader that handles the highway nicely. I want to eventually lift it and stuff 35's under it. First of business will be to pep the engine back up to make it safe. I want to pull the engine and put some new internals in to keep it from blowin on me with over 200k miles. Then I want to slap a TRD supercharger/intake/exhaust on it. My question is..what should I do to the engine to keep it bulletproof? I would like to have the engine built and supercharger ordered or installed and tuned by September

Im new to yotas and the 3.4l so I dont know its weak spots or what is normally needed with so many miles

Leave it alone is the best thing you can do if it runs fine and does not burn oil now. The 3.4 has very, very, few weak points. The bottom end is insanely solid. Only real weak point I would say is the heads/head gaskets. No real preventative maintenance on those though unless you've got cash to blow and it gives you the warm fuzzies to have new heads and head gaskets. Do the TB/WP if it's due, and support the SC with fueling mods and it'll last a long time. I put 290k on my 3.4 with zero issues besides scheduled TB/WP changes, never burned a drop of oil.

The 3.4 is pretty much bulletproof. If you know that regular maintenance was performed on it from the PO, don't worry yourself and don't waste your money. I've got 177k on mine and the PO didn't take care of it at all. Still runs strong. And I don't baby it. It's hauled several hundred pounds in the back and towed heavy trailers. Did both with no problems and never left me on the side of the road. Just do what the guy above said, and you should be fine.

Just to be sure, timing belt and water pump?

And fueling mods would include bigger injectors and fuel pump correct?

So just slap the SC on and run er till something needs fixed?

Yeah timing belt/water pump, not too bad of a job on these.

Correct-ish, I'm not a supercharger guy but the most popular route seems to be a 7th injector. I'm not sure on the fuel pump, one of the SC guys may chime in or just search it, lots of documentation on it. Long story short, the TRD kit as it comes isn't terribly polished in terms of long term sustainability. Ping and lean conditions are hard on the heads if not corrected with supporting fueling mods among other means.

It's a solid motor, I've heard many more horror stories of shops screwing it up trying to rebuild he bottom end on up instead of success stories if that says anything about the build quality from Toyota.

URD...Go to their website. If needed you can talk to gadget (if you call the number on the site gadget is who you will talk to). Thats where I got my 7th injector and goodies.
