no it won't bend the shaft at all, its built right...........puller is not needed for that, take a hammer and start tapping the base of that and you will be surprised how it will just pop off and then you will see 4 hex head screws in there to pull that plate on there that is holding it. I was at the same point you were and it took me a hour with messing around with a puller and i realized i didn't need the puller....

You are saying hit it on the end here on the right side ----------- ^^^^
With the hammer a few times and it should pop off? So parallel to rotor not perpendicular to it. correct? I wanna make sure I get this right. This other site said to screw the bolt that was in the shaft back into it then hit the end of the bolt with a hammer. I just cant tear up the threads so I was leery about that.

Reminds me of the days of riding my buddys super small funkart with a Stihl 090 chainsaw motor (13hp). lucky to be alive.

anyways,,you'll probably have to pull crankshaft out for the clutch keyway to be cut, if there isint one

Find some engine schematics and see what size crankshaft you are dealing with,,and if there is a clutch availible.

your all set up for a Briggs,,might be easier and cheaper to find a craigslist motor or ??.

I might be, But i wanted a project and this has been fun to do. And learned a lot more about engines this way. plus money is very tight so the cheaper the better. so maybe there is another crank shaft that can fit in there or something for that engine I dunno

here is an exploded diagram that i found of this model. Its number 5 that I am knocking off. One post said that I can put a block of wood on the rotor and hit that with a hammer but it didnt specify where. I guess vertically (perpendicular to the rotor). I dont mind damaging the rotor. Just want to make sure that the shaft doesnt bend.

I am going to go fix my Temp/Compass now if anyone has any other ideas on the rotor before I get started on that again please shout them out. I will also need to make a gas tank. I can make a gravity fed one like the generator uses or a fuel pump. I can get a fuel pump for $25 or less from online or maybe the local garden shop. (I dropped my engineering major with good reason)

Ok with the shaft being tapered there may not be much we can do with it for the go cart unfortunately. But there is a 6.5 HP motor on sale at Harbor Freight for $129 (not too shabby at all) which will fit my clutch and the mounts on the go cart. and my brother say this that he wanted to build. but he needs to buy a lot more before he can do that.

So I may just do that. It would be cheaper than a 1" bore clutch I have some rear turf saver tires already to go, then all i would need are new front tires and a new chain

This is the new engine I am looking at... the same one thats on that bike, Maybe get a bigger one, but then I have to upgrade that clutch to a bigger bore.

I dont know if anyone is still following this or not, but i got the new engine today, got it home this afternoon. went to replace the tires and rims because the ones on the cart were old and rotted and had holes in them. I got one off and replaced but the other was stuck. My brother decided to hit the threaded axel with a hammer to try and loosen up the wheel, but all he did was damage the thread so now whether we get the wheel off or not, we cant put the nut back on. Bye bye go kart project.

We are trying to figure something out. We might move on to the motorized bike, but that cost more money so I dont know. I cant afford anything. I liked the idea of being able to ride the go kart off road, he wanted to build a look alike motorcycle. I dunno what we are going to do yet. I am just pretty bummed out that after all that hard work that thread is screwed up.
