    Helloooooooo

So my tacoma 1997-8 v6 engine is starting to fail.
because of oil leak, and running really really rough.

or should i swap in another engine?

    say a 1999 v6
will a 4x4 transmission interchangable? or the current one work?

What condition is the body? Might be better served just looking at getting another truck.

Swapping in a complete motor from a donor truck will probably cost you less than rebuilding your current motor. Check your local craigslist.

the taco v6 was virtually identical from 1995.5 through 2002 I believe. Any of those V6 engines will bolt right up. I would think the 2003 - 2004 engines would work as well if you swap over your current throttle cable setup since those are electronic throttle engines.

as for the tranny, any tranny that came original in the 1995.5 - 2004 tacoma should bolt right up.

so you have the 3.4L 5VZ-FE right?

    I have a similar scenario.
I bought my 96 Tacoma from a Toyota mechanic and he gave me a 2001 3.4L V6 Engine with the truck. He said you can swap any 3.4L from 95-01 easily. My truck has over 200,000 miles and ive been debating on waiting until it blows and swapping or selling it and buying a new truck when it dies.

What do you think one of those engines are worth with around 90k?

    yea I have the 3.4L 5VZ-FE engine.
the thing is the truck current body is really ugly
-_- been hit 3 time within the same year. all of them damages is from them hitting me while park.
the thing is my dad own the truck since it is been put into the showroom when it first came out. so it has huge sediment value. however it is running rough almost to the point sound like it might explode, and when making turns it would give this squeaking pitch.
so not sure what options is there
either fix everything or donate or scrap it.

Yes, 96-02 4runner 3.4s should work too. I believe the transmissions are the same too.
