40 Million Kidde brand fire extinguishers are affected. I checked my extinguishers out and one of them was on the list.

*EDIT* All of my Kidde Extinguishers were on the recall list. Boat, Garage, and Kitchen. You need to submit claims for each based on the category (plastic handle, push button, and Marine push button)

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fire-extinguisher-recall-kidde-nearly-40-million/

So now what? Check each Kidde extinguisher you own, and by category claim them at the below links. The confirmation I received stated they are sending the replacement unit in 15-20 days.

To save you time and effort, below are the direct verification links:

    USA: https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/Kidde284US/

    CANADA: https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/Kidde284CA/

    You will need to provide:

    1. Your name and shipping details (no proof of purchase needed)

    2. Model Number (on side of extinguisher)

    3. Serial Number (also on side of extinguisher)

    4. Don't throw away your old units. They may send instructions to follow on what to do with them.

Fingers crossed you don't have one on the recall list, but if you do hopefully this helps speed up getting a replacement. Good luck.

Mods are aware of the duplicate threads. In this case it's intentional. No need to report.

Thanks for the heads-up OP. My two home extinguishers are on the list (model: H110G — red), but not the one in my rig (FX110E — silver). It's strange though... the only difference I can tell between the two models is the color. Same size, same plastic parts, same label, etc. Anyway, thanks again!

@nwAdamR Make sure you check by category to verify. I missed one right off the bat because I was in the plastic trigger category when it was (while looking like a plastic trigger model) actually a push top type in their system.

@Captqc @peavey02 Glad to hear you guys are tracking them down! I can't believe this isn't getting more press, but then again Kidde has been fighting to keep this quiet for years.

I wouldn't throw them away as Kidde may ask for them to be returned as cores.

When I completed the online form it said that they would give instructions on what to do with the old unit when they ship me the replacement.

Good to know! I didn't see that when I did mine. I have updated the sticky instructions to reflect that - thanks!

I checked my 3 fire exts. 2 of mine are on the list -- One is another brand. I went to Kidde's website --all went smooth till I came to the "date code" this is hard to figure out. On one of mine it is called a "Mfr. code" the other one calls it something else. Nowhere do either one of them call it out as a "date code" as the website requires. I just guessed on this and took the last 5 digits on some numbers written on the side of the cylinder? But both guesses worked after a couple of tries? The posted me a note saying they would send me replacements for both. Mine were a Red 340 and a Red 240. Good luck to all -- I am sure their toll free numbers will be jammed up tomorrow, so you may have better luck with the website.

Date code was asked for, but not a required field for any of mine - glad you were able to figure something out that worked!

They better darn well pay return shipping if they want the old ones back?

Thanks...had two. Would suck to be Kidde now. 40 million??? Wonder what the cost of each unit is to manufacture. Could approach half a Billion in total cost.

The confirmation says the new ones will come with instructions on how to properly take care of the recalled ones. No way they put any financial onus on the consumer.

That makes sense -- if they had to pay return shipping on all the defective ones their costs would go up drastically.
