Hey guys, I am looking for some help...

I just bought a used 2014 Texas edition Tacoma PreRunner SR5 . Love the truck so far, but I was unable to use the old receiver lock because it's not wide enough,

I am sure I'm not the first person with this problem.

Can you guys please share with me which receiver lock you are using or at least what the width needs to be?

It looks to me that the one that I have is just under 3" in but the only other size I find online is 3.5"

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

The one you have, did you get it at harbor freight? That's where I got mine that was too short. Do you know a machinist that can turn down 3/8 of an inch off the end block on the shaft side? If not, the 3.5 inch unit will work. A vocational school machine shop might do it free or cheap just for the training.

Thanks for the reply, I got it at Walmart... It ended up being the same exact size as the one that I already own which is also too short.

The truck that I just traded to get the 2014 was a 2004 Tacoma and the lock worked just fine but the width of the receiver was considerably more narrow

I was looking at Walmart and I did not see one any wider than the one I got so I figured it might have just been an issue with the other receiver lock. Obviously not.

Thanks for the help, I guess the 3.5 is what I'm going to have to look for

I have same issue with multiple receiver locks. I was able to grind the edge down on one to work. I too would like to buy one that just fits. Is it a Toyota thing?

I have no issues with mine. I have a Reese lock that I bought at Tractor Supply, and it fits just fine.

I think it's an issue just with the newer Tacomas, because the lock that I currently have came off my old truck... I started to try to grind it down and I'm finding that I'm really going to have to grind it quite a ways to make it work

3.5 with a water hose attachment washer on either side works for a snug fit

I found a 3.5" at the local Ace Hardware yesterday. It easily fit, but it is considerably wider.

Anyone have a good outlet for a 5¼" drop hitch? I may buy a chrome one if I can get a decent price on it.

    TTT

Followup question: Can you guys with a 2014 Taco show me your center console space right under the stereo? I would specifically like to see a device to split it into 2 spots to hold 30 oz Yeti cups.

I bought one like this one below, and it does work, but I am not crazy about it.

Might want to post this on the main second gen. forum, it will get a lot more hits.

I just though that maybe .an anti rattle U bolt clamp might be enough to deter would be thieves . A hair pin and yank is a lot easier than a wrench and a little time commitment . Not sure how much of a fight the locking pin will put up a determined thief.
