I love the thought and effort put into troubleshooting this.

I would definitely try a new cable run the easy way to observe the difference beteeen that and your current cable. The end crimpers aren’t expensive. Then decide how to tackle a permanent replacement if it’s justified to do so.

Running cable in the attic is less terrible if you’re replacing an existing one. All you have to do is remove any staples and pull. I like poly seaming tape to hold the ends together for a pull. The hard part is any runs through joists or studs / headers.

I’m no expert on this stuff but I wouldn’t necessarily assume an intermittent symptom rules out cable trouble.

Ok, that’s great that your lines are underground. Underground systems use a special cable called “Flooded”. It’s made to be submerged. Most of the issues with underground systems are with water invading the tap or last residential junction splitter that goes to the 4 houses.

before spending anymore time or $ buying equipment try asking the neighbors. If there’s a known issue you may be the only person using that ISP because they all gave up.

most providers have fiber cable running down the main streets and go to copper or coax from there. The closer to fiber you are the better.

when the issue is a bad connector you will normally have problems at the same time when temps drop. You will see an issue with the connector called “Suckout”. That’s when the steel contracts or expands and causes intermittent conductivity.

I worked as a tech for time Warner (no longer exists)

it’s funny because almost all my friends, family and their neighbors call me to come over and troubleshoot/fix issues they have or come help the installers do the install correctly.

It’s been a while since I worked for them and it’s sad but I haven’t met a tech that took it as serious as I did. Most techs don’t last long. It’s a crazy/nasty/dangerous job

Since my last post (couple hours? LOL) I have been trying to get at the meaning of these "criticals." I found a single post on Reddit:
My guess is it's requesting from IPv6 (which we're not using) and getting no response, so that should be good.

Thanks, would be easier if I knew what I was doing. :p

Ours is a 2/s house, the cable goes into the house by the garage, probably up to the first story rafters, then towards the back of the house and down. The problem is . . . the roof slopes down in that part of the house and it's unlikely I'll be able to get back far enough to do anything useful. Add to it, on the 2nd story directly above the wall where the cable comes in is a window above, jacuzzi style tub below. If it comes to cable I regret to say we're probably going to have to go exterior. Crossed 20 hours, no drops so far and as above, this error doesn't equate with a drop.

Probably will do that. "Got a cuppa sugar and oh by the way, how's your Internet" LOL

I remember them, back in the AOL days LOL

This is all very helpful, I could say "fixed" right now and walk away, but stuff that keeps me un at night is always "WHY THOUGH?"
