2010 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Off Road 4.0 6-Apeed
Hi, I'm not a Tacoma owner but my son just bought a used 2010 Tacoma Access Cab TRD with 4.0 and 6-speed manual.

The wife and I did lease a 2016 Highlander V-6 back in August.

After a 90 mile drive, we were a little rushed when we went to pick up the truck. My son had made the deal over the phone pending our approval upon arrival. The truck drives great and is in overall very good condition given 100K miles and 7 years of use.

We noticed a slight squeaking noise and thought it was coming form the engine bay and since it stopped as soon as RPM was raised above idle, we figured it was a belt of possibly an accessory that was the problem. The truck was bought as-is, no warranty.

After my son drove the 90 miles home he called me and told me the noise was coming from the bell housing. I was running about 20 minutes behind him as a shuttle driver for his Corrola and stopped by to check it out. Sure enough, it was coming from the bell housing and as soon as the pedal was depressed in the slightest, it stopped.

Doing some research we have concluded that the slave cylinder is not allowing the throw out bearing to disengage completely, hence the noise that stops as soon as the TOB contacts the clutch pressure plate diaphragm.

I found a THREAD on here about updating the slave cylinder with the longer spring via a rebuild kit, Toyota part #04313-34011. Is that the proper rebuild kit for this year/model?

Given almost 50 years of working on cars, trucks and motorcycles, it puzzles me as to why you would want any contact of the pressure plate with the TOB when the pedal is up. Seems like that would promote premature TOB failure.

That is one school of thought behind that solution. Personally I drive an automatic and don't worry about it.
