I came home from work today and right when I pulled into my driveway I heard a noise and noticed that it only happened when the recirculate air was on. It's like a click/tap noise. I could feel the noise when I touched under the glove box. Not sure what it is. But I check the wiring and everything was plugged in and in tact. Any ideas?

Yeah, it's the recirculating air motor under the glove box. Have to replace it because the screws they use to balance the fan come loose over time. The new tacoma's have ball bearings in the fan motors so it eliminated the problem. Just have to get a new model motor and replace it. It's only a few screws and a wire harness.

Before you replace it, you might try balancing it. Or greasing the bearings. There are a couple threads here that can walk you through it.

That's if you have the motor with the bearings. Mine has the one that has the fan balanced with screws. You can take the fan out of the housing and tighten/loosen screws as needed with a lot of testing by turning it on to find the right balance, but even then it doesn't fix it for very long.

Oh ok, I gotcha. I looked through this thread and must have overlooked that part. I thought the old motors were screws only to balance it. Thanks for the info!

So I got my truck in the shop to have the LCA's changed and the blower motor since they're under the extended warranty and it's free and they changed the blower motor but when you hit the recirculate air button it still had a constant tick. Any other suggestions outside of the blower motor?

    Getting there...
Are you sure they used the new/OEM motor? Otherwise check your cabin air filter for leaves and other crap.

They told me what it was but I forget the name, it has something to do with when you hit the recirculate air button. If recirculate air is off then theres no noise, but when one it starts to tick after a while

The truck is still under the extended warranty so I may have a shop do it since it's all free. I'm gonna look into it more though and see what needs to be done since I've never replaced one before.
