For decades I cursed can'tseefornothingweakasseddomelights and now that brighter ones are available someone criticizes those. It really does take all kinds. I'm just glad an upgrade is available so each of us can be happy. Enjoy your flashlight, that is if you can find it. ;)

You should try my ultimate reds then. The red LEDs actually put out more usable light than the stock WHITE lights, while still maintaining your night vision transitioning in/out in darkness

So I understand that you have a 3rd gen and I have a 2nd but I went with LUYED. It looks like the sun is in my truck haha. Amazon is awesome for LEDS! 20190209_221739.jpg 20190207_162244.jpg 20190207_162400.jpg

There’s some varience from truck to truck. 31mm is supposed to fit but I had to put a 29mm in mine as the 31mm felt like it was going to break the socket and was way too big.

Their customer service was on top of it when I messaged them and shipped me a different one right away. Nice to have a company that doesn’t give you the run around and just gets it taken care of.

    From their support ->
The SMF2, and the standard 31mm bulbs, are listed as these do fit in most Tacoma applications. Unfortunately there are some instances where the bulb socket will vary. With our 31mm being a universal bulb there are instances where the socket might need to be adjusted slightly to account for this

I think the reds look super slick! It would be nice to have something the wife and/or kids could turn on while on a trip that wouldn't ruin my night vision. Have you thought of selling a 50/50 version with one side red and one white for the map lights? It would also be useful to have a red one on the passenger side for the wife to use when she's doing something in the car while I'm driving, but white for myself on the driver's side as I'd probably only use it while I wasn't driving. Or even if they are bright enough, you could have the flexibility to use one or the other as needed depending on what you are doing. Hmm though I wonder if that would be weird to have one of each when you open the door and they all come on at the same time...

I wonder if the 2020s will upgrade to LED interior lights like they are doing with the headlights? Doubtful though since it is looking like the LED headlights will be an option rather than standard.

This isn't the first time Amazons "this fits your car" has bitten me. I should've measured them before I bought them.

As an aside, the LED map lights that I installed are literally a night and day difference. If the coming LED dome lights (800 lumens and 6000K) I ordered are as good, I'll be very happy. They were the only ones I saw on Amazon that weren't 400 lumens.

Their dome light is the improper size and doesnt fit without mangling the mounting spring. I literally snapped the bulb trying to install it. Their bulb is 31mm, socket size is 29mm.

Still waiting on a 29mm replacement bulb they say is in rnd.

Point taken, and I'm thinking of leaving one map light stock with a brighter LED in the other. That way I can have weak ass light or burn my retinas out depending on the situation.

I keep the dome light off as you do, but when I use it I want a lot of it.

My only complaint is you have to replace the combustible material and running the risk of catching fire inside the cab. Other than that, no issues!

Study up on light temperature. I got 6500K LEDs and they are white light. Higher and you'll get a bluish white light. 8000K is supposed to be sunlight at noon. You sound like you need around a 4000K light. That'd be closer to yellow. Then you want to figure out how many lumens you want. The higher, the brighter. There are plenty of 400 lumens LEDs for autos. I got some 800 lumens but they probably aren't that high. Good luck.

And why you always carry a flashlight with a red filter when you go stargazing or take out a telescope.

deAutoLED has 4300k yellow LED 194 bulbs for front - it is not something I seen anywhere online - it is bright but keeps close to halogen color. It is custom as it is not so popular: Support@deAutoLED.com

I'd be curious to know how many lumens they are.

It would be same lumens as stage 1 model as photo above shows - they are fairly bright. But exact lumens are not shared so you would have to email to see if they can share the specs with you: Support@deAutoLED.com

I have seen them in a VW JETTA - it is a bit more yellow but they don't have the rear 29mm dome. Just 194 model. But a lot want it for the front.
