Just purchased a 2007 Tacoma access cab TRD with the 4.0 and 6 spd. 4wd. Previous owner said they had a clutch put in last year. I believe him but not sure if they changed the throw out bearing. If Im correct, this truck doesnt have a Pilot bearing??? Anyhow, I have a squeaky/squealing clutch. No slipping but a little bit of clutch shudder and its finicky taking off in 1st. Tricky to take off smoothly, I should say... As soon as the weather warms up, Im going to tackle it myself. Ive done clutches before on older vehicles and I dont think it will be much different. It will be mainly just street driven and not really abused. ( I SAY THAT NOW). Links to a recommended kit would be cool. Guessing I can probably do it in a day on the ground. That sound reasonable? No specialty tools required that I know of???
    THANKS for the help.

Exedy makes a good clutch. If you've got a shudder, either replace the flywheel or send yours to a good machine shop for a check/resurfacing. And yes, you have a pilot bearing, it's a 6201, but it should only be doing something when the clutch is disengaged.

Also, I've never done a clutch on a 2nd gen, but I did one on a 3RZ 1st gen with a W-series trans. It wasn't *that* hard (on a lift) in the technical remove-a-million-things sense, but it wasn't what I'd call easy by a longshot. Up there with an IS300 and BMW 3-series X-drive for the biggest PITA getting the trans out of the tunnel, since according to Toyota (and common sense, from my memory) you pull it with the T-case attached. Not one I'd be thrilled to try on the ground, unless you have a big flat paved space and a trans jack.

Also, what exactly do you mean by squeaky/squealing clutch?

There os a constant squeal when the pedal is UP. It changes squeal midway down and goes away when fully down. I meant throw out bearing but said clutch. The clutch is finicky and hard to start out smoothly in 1st gear. I figure Ill do the job myself but was looking for links to clutch kits

Throw out bearings making noise on the 6-spd trans is pretty normal. Not necessarily a sign of it being bad. Post a video?

I did a 5 speed transmission and clutch in my 4 cyl about 6 months ago. It is not that difficult but you will want a 3' extension to reach the bellhousing bolts. The hot ticket is a 1/2F to 3/8M x 36" extension, an impact gun, and 3/8 drive swivel impact sockets. The top few bolts are a long way away . The biggest PITA for me was floor jack lift height. By the time the truck is high enough to get the transmission/bellhousing under the frame my floor jack wouldn't reach (full size 2T jack), so I had to lower the truck to pull it, and then raise it again to get it out. I looked up my jack online and it said 20" max so you'll ideally want something that goes higher.

And you do leave the transfer case attached , at least on the 5 speed. You can remove it but then you might mess up the seal. Having the TC in place actually helps the balance though and does not throw it off side to side. I posted more info and pics of my adventure in a thread here.

    edit:

I mentioned it was difficult to remove from the engine block. When I went to install the new transmission, with new bellhousing, it was also difficult to seat on the locating dowels in the block, so at least one of the dowels was very slightly out of position
