recommendation for front pads and rotors ?

    new, none yet, going to lift it, and get wheels and tires, small dent in tailgate
    Clearly I need to start with a real evaluation. I thought I heard the light scraping sound of "brake indicator"

    Gonna bring this thread back up. I recently had the 50 point inspection (I was getting new tires mounted and balanced), as they call it, and they stated "Your brake pads are at 4mm. We recommend replacing them". Stock pads are roughly 11mm. So at 4mm I'm down to 36%. Service shows 1mm is when brake pads are to be replaced. I mean I would never go that low. But should I wait til 2mm at least?

    I would wait, I change my own pads. I’m harder on the brakes so it’s more of a concern, my wife is easy on the brakes so her Camry pads can go a little longer. I’d say no, just push a pad change to later on.

    3rd gen TRD OR suspension
    I went with mid-grade NAPA rotors and Wagner Thermoquiet semi-metallics when I did brakes last year. The SM's have that nice initial "cold" bite that I like. I will deal with the dust. I ran Akebono's before that- I wasn't impressed. Lot's of dust and they never gave a solid feel when braking hard.

    Where are you guys finding the TRD pads (PTR09-89111)? My dealer (in Canada) said that there's no stock in North American warehouses & no TBD date on re-stock.

    Not seeing anyone mention rockauto, had good luck with centric or raybestos stuff from them, so far haven't found a cheaper place for auto parts, and the fast shipping is amazing.

    My PowerStop rotors and pads have been going great for several years now doing a lot of off-roading and towing.

    The Car Care Nut has a video of brakes and why you should go with the Toyota OEM brake pads and standard rotors (not driled, not vented, etc.) I don't have time to review his videos for these two, but in essence:
    Your truck came with one model of brake pads, which are expensive. Toyota also sells a less expensive version. TCCN recommends the //original shipping pad// Mine were $84 for the front pads. 2015 Tacoma.
    Rotors, it's not a gigantic deal from whom you get the rotors, but do not get drilled rotors. Tacoma rotors are intentionally designed to provide your vehicle what it needs to stop best. Can you imagine the lawsuit if they cheaped out on the things that stop the car? Drilled rotors wear your pads faster, and they do not increase heat dissipation.
