My brother lost a co-worker last year because an unsecured object in the cab hit him in the head when launched during a collision. With that said, I still have to build some tie-downs for the gear I haul around inside the cab so I don't suffer the same preventable fate...

Aluminum jack stands scare me. Probably slightly better than cinder blocks.

    That will be $500.

Jack, light and pair of aluminum jack stands in a Milwaukee bag, less than 20lbs.

In general 3 ton jack stands are ok, but will require some wood shims for some applications due to height. I have 6 ton jack stands because of the extra height. I’ve used both with success.

ok, what specifically makes any jack in the link safer than any other jack from any other brand?

one of those jack brands is listed as located in battle creek michigan. the company i work for has it's headquarters there. my facility keeps sending them work because they can't get their own, and we've got two full time guys to fix what they can't get right for the product they do produce for my facilities sales, and it generally gets back to us at least 2 weeks behind schedule, plus another 3-4 weeks fixing their mistakes...

quality is always a condition of what the management and engineering standards accept. my company example really has everything to do with management and their politics and specific version of acceptable standards. the politics of the location is that most of the management were hired on to staff the positions because they or a family member knew someone in the larger central office, not because they had experience or were qualified for such a position, which means they've chosen to ignore legacy product advice for faster methods that end up costing far more, while those changes we demand have the initial appearance of being superfluous to the original design, but were integrated after customer feedback to correct for issues that routinely arise in the long term use of the design.

i would consider harbor freight to be a more quality brand in this case specifically because they issued recalls voluntarily, and were the only company doing so for a product known to be subject to 'sticker-branding'. and frankly, american products struggle more with this, bing that every product has a ratio of employing people in the states, combined with the costs of materials and general facility operations. many times, they need to make the employee pay a larger part of the product cost, but then use cheaper, or outright lesser/thinner materials to offset costs to maintain a competitively-priced product. for the most part, the majority of people don't care where a product is produced as much as they care about the final price.

There's a difference between buying something made in China at a place like HF and buying something MIC off of Temu. Chinese manufacturing is capable of high quality output, but fly-by-night junk mills also exist. Company culture is no more monolithic there than it is in the US.
