I'm looking at buying a 1995 Tacoma 4x4 with 68k miles. It's in very good conditions and nylon bed topper, fresh paint job and rhino lined bed. It's a 5 speed manual and the wheels have been powder coated. The owner wants $ 9k for it.... what do ya'll think?

It sounds to me like the seller did all the things you do to polish a turd. I think 5K sounds about right.

It's the 2.7L 4 cylinder, regular cab. It's got prett decent records and recently got brand new tires. Spent a lot of time in a garage.

Keep in mind, it's still a 21 year old vehicle. KBB calls it for under $4000.
Not sure what advice to give- some people on here would sell their house for a mint older Tacoma, but personally, I don't think it's worth half the asking price.

I mostly agree. Honestly, it's in great condition. I was surprised how clean and strong it runs. 9k is too much, even here in NC.

With trucks that are old, my concern would be more for the mechanicals of the truck and if they have been maintained or what has been done...motor,tranny,drivetrain, etc and less on if it's been painted or has powder coated wheels. Also pics of stuff would help people if you really want a good estimate of what it could be worth:worthless:

I was in a serious accident, and I'm a believer in air bags. The more the better. That's the trouble with old vehicles. No air bags, or else primitive ones.

Sounds like a great truck, but not for that price.

If you like it, don't panic. He'll have it a while.

Most folks expect to haggle. Tell him you don't want to, and ask him the lowest price he'll sell for. He already has a number in his head.

And it will still be too high. But in your head, accept that as the 'actual' price.

    Don't make an offer.

Just tell him you are a cash buyer, and if it doesn't sell at the current listing, to give you a call if he adjusts the price. (you're telling him it's too high, but you aren't insulting him, and you're leaving room for the outlying big spender to show up and buy his truck for the happy price. Doesn't mean you should be that guy)

Hand him your phone number, shake his hand and thank him for his time.

IF he does call, you've still not made an offer. You just get to hear his new number. If still not suitable, you have no obligation, or you can make your offer.

I've bought a couple nice cars this way. All the tire kickers fall away, and suddenly they wake up to reality, and call the guy that had money.

Nice looking truck, miles are good engine looks clean, to much for single cab and age, if it were say 99-04 with those miles and condition i think it would be good. Just my thought though. Hard to say without more pics or info but i wouldn't be afraid to spend maybe 6k on it, IF you plan to keep it till it dies ( as in forever ). Thats my approach and thought process with buying a 2016 sometime soon, I'm willing to spend the money because I'm not thinking resale value or worth to someone else. Just me.
