My battery is so dead that I cannot even jump start my truck. It is totally my fault since it sits in storage for much longer periods of time than I like. I tried to get it out for a drive last weekend and found out that it is time for a new battery. I have the stock alternator and was not sure if an AGM was a good choice.
I was on the Mud forum today and it looks like the X2 are popular for the 200 LCs. I was a bit surprised because I didn't think that stock LC alternators put out enough power to keep an AGM charged.
What do you guys recommend, taking into consideration the fact that my truck sits a lot?
Additionally, are there any larger batteries that will fit in the tray and under the bracket?

To charge your AGM battery you will need a lead-acid battery and 2 small jumper cables. Put one small cable between the positive post on the lead acid battery and the AGM battery posative post and the same for the negative side and charge the lead acid battery... there will be enough bleed off to slowly charge the AGM battery to the point where it will take a charge. If is doesnt take a charge after 6 hours the AGM is junk.

Unless you have a need for an AGM, I'd just buy a conventional. And I'd probably just buy a cheap battery in case you need to keep replacing it. Can you plug a trickle charger in where you store the rig?

Also, what do you mean you can't jump start it? Do you mean with a jump pack? Or do you mean with another vehicle hooked up and running, it won't start your truck?

I have a small power cell that has started diesels before. I have not tried to jump it with another car.

That seems like good advice to me. My guess is that until I can figure out a way to power a trickle charger, that this is going to happen again.

AGM, hands down. Sometimes I'll go a couple weeks without starting my truck. Conventional would always fail me in those circumstances, AGM still gets the job done

I'd still recommend a NOCO 10A tender though if you plan on sitting it over a week

I’m running a Group 27F EFB from Rural King in my 2003 DC. I sorta see an enhanced flooded battery as a premium conventional flooded battery.

I'm a fan of AGM and have also resurrected my buddy's dead AGM using a Battery Minder desulfating charger/tender. There's also an alternator diode/fuse mod to boost about 0.5 volts.

I’m an AGM battery fan boy because you don’t have to deal with battery acid leaking and corroding your terminals. That alone is worth the money to me.

FWIW, the Toyota-branded battery in mine starts the truck just fine after ~3 weeks sitting while I was doing the timing belt. It's ~3 years old, so not exactly a brand new battery. But if you're really worried, keep the truck on a battery tender (NOCO makes great ones too) and you're golden.

That said, my truck's bone stock - maybe you have more parasitic load than I do.

I have a Toyota brand battery in my Land Cruiser and it works great. I forgot about their batteries.

The more I learn about AGM batteries, the better they sound.
