Just bought a Tacoma from a dealership about 18 hours from home. Rather than driving it home, I am hoping to ship it here. Any recommendations on companies? Any helpful hints that I should know. Thank you all.

Sounds like approximately 1000 miles? You can use several websites to arrange shipping...sites like Uship etc. I would guess it will cost you $800-$1200 if that distance is correct. Shipping probably went up 30% since COVID started. It’s hard to recommend a specific company because almost all runs go through a brokerage.... and go to whatever shipper picks up the run. The better the run pays, the faster the vehicle gets picked up. Can the seller offer you any assistance? And beware of lowball quotes because your truck will never get picked up. I have shipped 12 or 13 trucks to the Midwest from the west coast over the years and it was always kind of a hassle.

Welcome aboard. Why not grab a greyhound bus, and drive it home yourself? I have never bought a vehicle without test driving it first though.

Most dealerships have their own transports, a dealership in Colorado quoted me 750 to ship a 4runner to California.

I don’t work. Where’s it at? Fly me there an home. May be cheaper than transport.

Hop on a plane and drive it back.

    There's a shortage of truckers
The auto transport business on the cheap end is full false promises

Bough mine 800 miles away, after weighing up shipping vs fly n drive, is was way cheaper and easier to fly n drive. $200 for plane ticket, few $ in gas. Left for airport 6am Tuesday, at dealership around 12pm, back home 6am Wednesday. ( would have been sooner but dealership took hours to get me out the door).
But if you are stuck on shipping, first thing to do is ask the selling dealer, many have their favorite shippers and it’s “deter the devil you know”, (or they know).

3~4 years later sounds like they still have it, so maybe not so stupid for them personally.

Yes. Outright con men. If you must have it shipped, see if your selling dealer is a member of Central Dispatch. This is a site dealers pay a subscription to use. It’s not perfect but shipping companies affiliated with it must meet certain minimum criteria's.

I agree, risky. Show up and it is damaged or not as shown. Some salesman sold it in error. I just don’t have enough faith in people to commit that much.

BUT it worked out, so all is well.

it was new, if it’s not as advertised, get on the plane and go back home. I’ve bought tones of cars and bikes out of state both new and used (fly n drive/ride), never had an issue. But always had return ticket and prepared to leave it / walk away.
I think the post and answer was more about never driven a 3rd gen before buying one on a fly n drive. Not buying a new vehicle remotely.

You can guesstimate $1 per mile so an 18 hour drive at speed limits would put you over $1,000 for an open trailer.

Keep in mind that unless you are calling a big name transporter, for example Intercity or Reliable, you will be talking to a BROKER who will act as middleman taking a cut of price your being quoted.

Best suggestion is to go with a big name transporter or drive the truck back yourself.

Best of luck on your decision.
