So I was just curious because I've never heard of camp chef. Im not sure if you were interested in the burner or the cast iron. I went to their website just because and this stood out to me. Its definitely made overseas and pretty inexpensive. Probably still pretty good if you keep up with the proper cleaning and care of the cast iron but the company was asked a direct question bit couldn't give a direct answer. Also the whole thing about being already seasoned is questionable to me.. Hopefully they only put a coating of oil on it other than some crazy chemicals because it isn't mentioned as far as I could tell

If you don’t take care of any cast iron it’s going to suck... that’s just part of the gig when using cast iron regardless of where it’s made

And often, vintage no-name brand cast iron is better than what you can buy today. Check out antique shops. Even old crusty pans can be put in an electrolysis tank and come out looking (and working) better than the cast iron pans you can buy today.

I’ve used a propane weed burner to burn off tons of crust and grime off old pans. Then put into an electrolysis tank and you can turn a $10 find into a $125 eBay pan.

I just bought the standing camp chef double burner. I figure the cast iron griddle will be a purchase down the road because I have several cast iron pans and skillets that will be perfect for camping.

One of them was given to me by my grandmother who used it in the 40s. I still use it from time to time and yes it most definitely is a tank. I was always taught to take care of cast iron and it will last a life time.

By the way @Toywoodsguy82 I bought this one. Thank you for the recommendation. I like that it runs on a large propane tank vs those 16oz bottles. It seems like it will put out a good amount of heat and I don't have to prop it up on my tailgate.

Pretty much the same one I have except I have the side shelves on mine. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do... just keep in mind it’s not a pack light kind of stove...

Will do. It's going to make a short trip from the truck bed to about one foot from the tailgate :D

I usually bring mine and just let my friends use it so that it’s not a waste for me bringing it just for myself.

I understand that, my point was that what is their 'pre-seasoned' process and is it 'healthy' for a person to consume and that the company was asked directly where it was made and the response was vague

Maybe I'm a bit crazy but I don't want my first steak be tainted by their crap oil/non stick seasoning or whatever it is. Probably a decent product but ill stick with my yard sale cast irons.

OP, I say go with your gut and get a coleman 2 burner and a griddle of your choice. At least some of their products are still made in the states

If you are looking for a lightweight backpacking stove, then I highly recommend one of the current Jet Boil or MSR Windburner stoves. Both are similar in performance and portability.

Yep that's the one I would recommend too. I should have that one but Amazon sold me a used POS that was supposed to be new. Then jacked the price up by about $30 and wouldn't price match. Damn I hate amazon.

Anyway to the OP..in a 2nd gen forum...:D...miss my ole 2nd gen at times - especially on the first of the month. Link below is what I have that has yet to let me down. Headed to Big Bend Wednesday and taking a back up little bbq pit for the just in case factor. This ain't no old gen coleman for sure but seems to do a pretty darn good job on breakfast and dinner.

Around here "Sportsman's Warehouse" stocks the Camp Chef brand - and the stuff looks heavy duty enough "in the flesh". Heavy enough to weld on if you wanted or needed to. I have also bought their cover jackets for a couple of items which helps store the stuff on the way out and back.

Another cool thing for your two burner. My girlfriend has one and I was very skeptical at first but it works great and folds up for easy transport in your vehicle.

We've made casseroles, pizza, baked potatoes, on and on. Made stuff that I usually wouldn't/ couldn't cook easily while camping out of your vehicle
