Howzit, looking to upgrade my audio system. I want to do so while keeping my stock head unit for the steering wheel controls. Not sure if the subaru tweeter upgrade and the kicker door speakers will do any good. I’m also looking for more bass and adding an amp. Was thinking if I should buy a sub box and the subwoofers and have a shop install it and add the rest. Not sure if I want single or dial subs. If anyone recommends anything such as tweeters, door speakers, subs, amps, line output converter (looking at the lc7i), wires, fuses, harnesses, I really will appreciate that. I do know the tweeters and door speakers will need it’s own amp if I plan on upgrading them. Anyone else here done the same? Pics of your setups are welcomed. I have no idea how to install these things so I’ll have a shop do it. I looked into the oem audio plus since it’s pnp but I figured I could get something better for the same price, give or take.

Thanks for the input everybody, the shops you guys recommended have good ratings and will look into it, and make couple calls later in the week. Does anyone know if there is a place that makes custom sub boxes on island or will these shops do it? I will be getting a bed cover with a storage box so I don’t mind removing the panels behind the rear seats.

I'll do it for half the price. Just buy the parts. Better yet I'll install it for some poke and smoke meat

& BTW, you can still utilize the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket receiver by using an adapter.

Whatever you guys do, avoid that Audio & Security Specialist place, especially the one on Nimitz. They overcharge and use low quality products, something you can find at Best Buy or at Walmart. The higher quality product are insanely expensive (JL audio). The installers there are ok, but the management only cares about money. They installed an amp & was constantly over heating to the point where it felt like it was about to catch on fire right under my seat. Come to figure, it was a cheap ass Walmart type of brand (CRUNCH ???) that costs $50 online. & they put a big ass tootsie roll looking bass tube that costs $100 online, which sucked too! ALSO paid an extra $60 for a bass knob, and it didn't even function correctly! Bass knobs online only cost around $20 at most. Total i paid was around $500 for some cheap bullshit products & the installation of wiring. I was new to car audio products at first, but after doing some research online, I learned how much this shop was ripping me off.

Went to JSP audio a couple weeks later and redid my sounds completely with almost the same price but 100x better. They specialize in a company called Xfire Audio. They also have some of the best audio installers on the island & can custom fabricate a sound system if you are looking to save space. They also do tinting too so it's a one stop shop to get a lot of things done at one time.

Sorry to make the sound like a YELP review LOL but you guys gotta know!

Really? Dang, I wonder if management changed?

I've gone to Car Audio & Security Specialist on the corner of Mokauea St and Kanakanui St / N Nimitz Hwy a few times. I didn't get crazy with the audio...installed the JL Audio Stealthbox with JL Audio door speakers and amps on my previous truck, and swapped out head unit and added an amp for my current truck. I've also referred them a couple of times and they have usually come out a little cheaper for audio and alarm parts and install here on island. It's convenient and they are usually able to schedule install fairly quickly. I guess I didn't pay attention to which wires/cables and connectors they used. I probably should look into this now. LOL.

At the time, I shopped around and found that they were willing to work with me on price and timeline with the parts I was comfortable with buying. I didn't need or want the most high-end audio. I did notice the prices are cheaper on Amazon for some parts, but I didn't want to wait for it all to arrive and risk the chance of missing pieces or incompatibility. I'm still a newb when it come to auto electronics and this is my daily driver so I never want my truck to be down for a long period of time. It's got to get me to work to help pay for more mods. LOL!

Anyway, sucks that you had a crappy experience, and thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to visit JSP Audio next time I'm in the market for an upgrade. \W/

I'm pretty sure it's the same people, it's a family run business. There's two middle eastern guys that run the shop, the skinny guy and the more chubby sweaty guy, i think they are brothers. The skinny guy is easier to work with, but the chubby bald sweaty guy is very pushy and is good at convincing you to buy things you really don't need. I used to think it was a great place too until i started actually doing research on car audio products and looking at how much these parts cost online. They basically mark up the prices double if not even triple of what the actual cost is. I gotta give it to the installers though, they are good, quick, and have great customer service.

JSP audio is more for custom work, like they actually build the box to the subwoofer's specs rather than having a bunch of subwoofer's on a show floor. It's kind of a step up from your usual "oooh i want that one" type of place, but it's worth it so you won't be disappointed down the line like i was. & the management takes the time to actually look at your car and work with you rather than just throwing prices at you.

Ah. Yeah. I only worked with the skinny guy. I think his name was, Ash? But, definitely good looking out. I'll stop recommending that shop now. LOL.
