This is my first off road vehicle. I have a hardshell tonneau cover right now. It has one set of clamps for the rear, a set of T bolt latches in the front, plus rescue harnesses. I have had issues with the T bolts on the front latches and clamps bending slightly (they are thin). It hadn't been much of a problem until I went off roading. The driver side front latch and the rear clamps came off and the tonneau migrated, scraping my side rail bed cap piece (luckily no body damage). I had to keep readjusting it the remainder of the trip. When I got home, I straightened out the T bolts and tightened the hell out of the front latches and rear clamps since then, but haven't taken it off road since.

I first bought a tonneau on my last taco and have used them for covering up expensive band equipment whenever we play a gig. I take it off whenever I go camping so I have room for my truck tent. I like my truck tent, but it is a pain to go back and forth between the two. So it kinda makes sense to just go with a camper shell.

Anyone had experience with Leer, Snugtop, or ARE camper shells off roading? Do they stay secure? I have been looking at the Snugtop Rebel and the Leer 100XR.

unless you're hauling ass through the desert, hitting jumps or bouncing over rocks KOH style the leer and ARE shells will work out fine no issues. Just make sure it's secured properly. Plenty of people running them from stock to fully built
