    All,

My son has a 2005 long bed Tacoma 4x4. We bought it used and it currently has 3" coil spacers in the front and 1" spacer block in the rear. He has 265 KO's on the stock wheel. It sits level. See the attached pic.

He wants to fit 285's and keep the stock wheels if possible. I don't want to cut it to make them fit so what do you recommend in terms of a good suspension set up that will fit that size tire with no issues? If you can share pics, please do.

    Thanks,

There’s a whole lot more than just putting on 285s and being done. More than likely you’ll need UCAs, if you want to keep the Oe wheels you’ll need wheel spacers. IMO I wouldn’t run a 285 on a 7” wide wheel. And if he plans on wheeling a bit, there will be some trimming needed and more than likely a cmc done.

Throw 285s on it and let him enjoy the truck. I know plenty of people running 285s on factory wheels with 3” and less.

Jumbo tires dont have a lift only solution

And 3" is pretty much the limit w/o causing multiple things to be addressed

My recommendations are to ditch the 3"spacers and rear blocks for coilovers and rear 3-leaf aal before spending money on tires. You will enjoy the ride and performance much better.

As mentioned, a lift alone will not solve fitment issues with large tires. Maybe if you never drive on anything other than paved surfaces with an occasional speed bump, but definitely not wheelin.

Adjustable UCAs can possibly bypass some of the need for cutting, by bringing the wheel further forward.

285s on stock wheels will require spacers, otherwise you'll be rubbing on the UCA. Spacers push the wheel out, but also extend the arc and increase the chance of rubbing pinch welds, fenders, and cab mount. UCA upgrades will not solve that.

You really need aftermarket wheels (~ 0 offset, 4.75" backspacing) and SPC UCAs to fit 285s with minimal cutting.
