Can you update it to say recovered instead of rescued? It was a recovery of a vehicle. Not a rescue of a person. The resources and time constraints of those are very different.

I haven't had time yet to fully digest the breadth of knowledge that is contained in this thread. In skimming it briefly though I would like to say one thing. Bad advice is worse then no advice at all. To everyone that wished the OP best of luck in his recovery I say thank you. To people that gave good advice, and there where very few, I say thank you. To the rest of the armchair quarterbacks just sit on the side lines. Some advice given about how to try and perform this rescue would have made the situation a shit ton worse. I give @rabidsupra a ton of credit for being wise enough to not take it.

The recovery was executed with no damage to the recovered, or recovery, rigs. It went about as well as I played it out in my head. I'll give you a hint. Nothing I read here is how the successful rescue was actually performed. lol

    very nice work all!
is this trail overall a difficult one, or just a momentary lapse in concentration while driving that shelf section?

So can we get a play by play of the recovery, just out of curiosity?

I'm on lunch so I will try to explain it as best as possible, @theesotericone if I explain something wrong please feel free to correct me, I don't want to give faulty information or bad advice to people in future predicaments.

First I'll give a slight explanation of the terrain. Its an up hill grade maybe about 15 degrees from horizontal heading up. The shoulder is ridiculously loose, and it started with one rear tire going on it. In the stopped pic before recover the truck is also leaning away from the road at an equivalent 10-15 degrees off horizontal.

What the plan to recover ultimately relied upon was getting @theesotericone uphill past my truck. This was sketchy part 1. I dont have the pics on this device but will add a few later. What you'll notice is my tires are turned hard passenger, creating a bit of squeeze. He was side hilling pretty bad when his front pass tire caught a rock, it slide his ass-end into my front tire, moving the truck a few inches. He stopped dead and we re evaluated. @tetten came up from behind and put a winch cable on my rear pass shackle off my bumper to act as an anchor. I then went by the truck turned it on and turned the wheels straight to allow room to get by. This was hairy, but very successful.

The second part of the recovery involved keeping tetten as an anchor with a sharp angle of attach and attaching a tow strap to theesotericone. My front pass shackle to his rear pass shackle. With all of us in our respective trucks, we tried the first attempt to get it back on the road. I cranked hard pass on the steering and put the truck in neutral to not create wheel spin. The plan was for tetten to release winch tension while theesotericone slowly tugged me out. On this attempt the back end of my truck slid a little further down and also began pulling theesotericone off the side as well. We tried this again, but with my truck in low and doing a slow roll to help pull it up. This allowed the truck to move a couple feet forward, but it still wasn't climbing out and the rear end was still going down.

At this point the truck was still not in a good position but there was movement. We all readjusted. Theesotericone reset the tow strap by doubling it up, but placing it on the same shackle on my front bumper, but on his rear driver this time to lesson the angle of attack. Tetten also decided instead of allowing winch line to come out, that he would crawl forward with us. This helped the rear end from losing ground and made it easier to pull forward. We started this attempt with me lightly on the gas to help pull and steering hard passenger. Once the front end was completely on the road had the turn back hard driving to help swing the rear end back on the road. At this point, that is the pic theesotericone posted yesterday evening.

After that we went to the peak, with my nerves shot and adrenaline still going crazy I hitched a ride with tetten. It was maybe 3/4 a mile a way. We then made our way back down and got back to the main road by 9 pm. I was able to grab my stuff from @Hobbs that I left at his place, and made it home a little before 2am to get a power nap before heading into work.

All in all, it was slightly complicated and we had to think on our feet, but it couldn't have been completely more flawlessly.

I will also say, I'd be hard pressed to find someone who made it up that mountain faster in a truck than these two...

Finally, thank you to @JaCado for checking in and making sure everything was going well throughout the whole experience. It is not one I plan to go through again.

As I said, I will post a couple more pictures later of the recovery, or at least what I was able to get to let everyone get a better visualization of what I wrote here.

Side note: Talking with theesotericone about this trail. There is a downed tree with a steep bypass that eventually leads to where I was. Apparently there was a sign there until about two years ago essentially stating "extremely loose terrain, vehicle travel not advised". This is one of those things where a little more research would have been a good idea.

I would like to nominate @rabidsupra for Best Parking Job of the Year.

You know you did it right when it takes two other vehicles to unpark you.
