I ran accross this stuck and abandoned Jeep a month or so ago and pulled him out.

Didn't have an actual pic of the recovery, but JW (n0rth) is hooking the snatch block up to the tree right now to pull me out. I dug down into the snow and my frame is sitting on some rocks. JW's 36's gave him enough height to avoid the same fate when he went through after he winched me out.

Mark (IDtrucks) slid sideways and almost off the trail. Any attempts at trying to move resulted in him sliding closer to the edge so I pulled him back and we left.

The day before the snow wheeling above, Mark and I were getting high centered after high centered after high centered. haha

Rocky (rocktoy) got a little bound up in escalator. A broken winch line later, we got him out but at the cost of a broken rear diff, and both front hubs...

I don't have a photo of it, but I went on this trail with a friend and his rig broke down at the bottom of the trail so we left it and went alone (pretty easy trail that we mostly use for snow wheeling). Well I took this rock a lot more driver to try to get all the way up it and got myself pretty hung up. Ended up putting my bottle jack under the rear hanger and using that to get my rear tires up high enough that I could stack rocks under them to get back off of it.

Cameron slid off the trail into a tree. Tried to pull him by the slider to get him off the tree and right after the first pull is when he remembered that the front legs of his sliders weren't exactly bolted on... He's redesigned them since and they work much better. haha

Tried to pull him slowly straight back (didn't want to give it a bump for fear that it would smash him into the tree harder), but it was too slick and I was pulling up hill so no luck. Out came the hi-lift and it works good, just a little more time consuming than a winch I suppose.

He slid off the trail again a little bit later, but without the tree in the way I could just bump him straight back.

Got myself high centered once again and Cameron couldn't get close enough to me to pull me out. Got crafty and pulled the Hi-lift out (first time I had tried this) worked out pretty good though I was a bit nervous running the Hi-lift.

Another one that happened this last weekend in the dunes. I found a dirtbike that had shit the bed and they couldn't get it running. Loaded it up in the bed and hauled it back out saving him easily an hour or two of pushing. haha Didn't think to snap a pic until after it was unloaded though.

I realize I need to take pics of recoveries! I have had a couple scary ones and a lot of high centered ones ever the years here in Alaska.

Once I tried to pull a Chevy Tracker with a dead trans on an icy hill with my FWD 99 Jetta. Ha. Didn't even move the Tracker.

Not exactly a wheeling pic but just a kid who got his parent's van stuck deep in the snowbank trying to turn into the house. I actually couldn't get him out on the first try and since he was 30 yards from his house, wasn't going to stress my truck over it.

I pulled 1 other person out of the ditch that day and helped one lady up a hill on the highway. I think we had about 13 inches but it was icy, too.

Here is a pic before the snow really took off!:

BTW, aired down AT3s are awesome in snow. I had no issues whatsoever.

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel
Here are some of the better or more entertaining recoveries that I have been a part of or witnessed over the last 4-5 years.

    Location: Area 51, Florida
Stuck: trailer fell off a cliff (lake at the bottom of the cliff) after a heavy rain.
Recovery: winch from another truck hooked to front of stuck vehicle.

    Location: Ocala, Fl
Stuck: 2wd Chevy that missed it by that much
Recovery: snatch strap off the front.

    Location: Area 51, Fl
Stuck: blind drop-off after coming over a small hill and around a corner. truck fell into hole. majority of weight was on the driver's side slider, and passenger side front tire.
Recovery: winch from another truck was hooked to rear of stuck truck. trailer was detached and walked away from truck. truck was winched backwards
    [IMG]

    Location: The Cove, Gore, VA
Stuck: fully locked land rover could not make it up slope. heavey rain the night before mixed with a steep grade, large roots, and large rocks kept the rover from making forward progress in a safe manner.
Recovery: Rover used its own winch, attached to the base of a tree at the top of the hill
    [IMG]

    protect your line
    [IMG]

    Location: The Cove, Gore, VA
Stuck: Land Rover with open diffs dropped a two tires into holes between rocks and could not climb out.
Recovery: Winch attached to base of nearby tree to pull straight forward.

    Location: The Cove, Gore, VA
Stuck: Land Rover entered off camber situation. forward path had rear wheels dropping off of long and into holes that risked roll-over
Recovery: rocks were placed in hole, and driver proceeded forward slowly, with front and rear spotters, placing additional rocks as needed.

    Location: Rausch Creek, PA
Stuck: Land Rover with inadequate tires for the conditions could not make it up slope to main trail. base of ice, and dirt, with 1 foot of fresh snow
Recovery: snatch strap was attached to front of vehicle, and tow vehicle assisted under it's own power. when slope get steeper, the tow vehicle had to winch both vehicles the rest of the way up
    [IMG]

top of the hill reached. winching from tree with yellow sign on it
    [IMG]

    Location: Rausch Creek, PA
Stuck: Land Rover slid into tree on off camber turn. roof rack stopped the vehicle without damage, but forward movement without assistance woulf have brought the tree past the end of the rack, and into the rear side window.
Recovery: recovery vehicle was placed behind stuck vehicle. snatch block was used on nearby tree, to pull the stuck vehicle away from the tree as it continued forward.

Location: Kansas Rocks Recreation Park, KS
Stuck: Fat truck, skinny trees, steep/slippery incline. No other vehicles nearby
Recovery: winch off front of truck to tree on passenger side. tow strap and come-along off rear/passenger side to tree. winch and come-along were tensioned, and truck was put into reverse. truck moved slowly backward as winch was let out, keeping the truck away from trees on either side, and keeping it from sliding all of the way down the hill.

    Location: Tuttle Creek, KS
Stuck: Lone (and inexperienced) jeep attempted crossing that appeard to be only 1 foot deep, but had 2-3 feet of silt/mud at the bottom
Recovery: winch off the back of jeep, and a quick tutorial to the owner about checking depths before crossing.

    Location: Barnwell Mountain, TX
Stuck: Truck slide into off camber situation where both forward and backward motion resulted in truck rolling onto side.
Recovery: Children were removed from back seat (pictured), and a winch was attached to the uphill side of the rear bumper of the truck, via snatch block. the driver was then able to back out of the situation while the winch line kept him from rolling.

    Location: Barnwell Mountain, TX
Stuck: front tires dropped off large rock, and truck became held up on crossmember.
Recovery: winch from stuck vehicle was attached to front of another vehicle. winch started pulling the second vehicle towards the stuck vehicle, so another truck was attached with a tow strap to the first.

Location: Texas Off Road Ranch, TX
Stuck: 4wd with low tread on tires. convoy had to stop mid-trail. truck could not move after stopping in deep, rutted mud.
Recovery: Owner got to walk through mud to attach tow strap to front of truck
    [IMG]

    Location: Barnwell Mountain, TX
Stuck: FJ Cruiser took improper line for its wheelbase, and became stuck on it's side.
Recovery: tow strap was attached to front of FJ and slowly pulled forward to prevent farther body damage/roll-over
    [IMG]

    Location: Padre Island, TX
Stuck: 4wd Tundra became buried to frame at the edge of the water, with tides quickly rising
Recovery: Vacuum was so strong, two winches were required off of the front of the truck, and traction ramps were placed in front of both front tires.

    Location: Padre Island, TX
Stuck: Fj Cruiser became high centered on washed-up telephone pole that was not visible from the direction he came from
Recovery: Single winch off the front, pulled the remaining 3 tires over the pole

Man I wish the times I've done recoveries, that I took pictures.

Got one that hasn't been listed yet:

This past winter it decided that it wanted to snow a good bit around here, around 8". I live in one of those towns where, when the forcast says snow, bread and milk disappears from all grocery store shelves. Woke up that morning to the snow and had intentions to get out and see who I could pull out. Coming down our main rode through town I noticed a square body Chevy and a semi-truck off the side of the highway coming up an access for the Food-Lion near by, and the Chevy was trying to pull the semi up the ~6% grade, which was covered in ice. I pull into the parking lot to see what's going on and see the Chevy ain't doing nothing to the rig. So I decide to hook up to the Chevy, and in the process an older Jeep hooks up to me.

2 State Troopers block all 4 lanes of the highway, and this chain of vehicles manage to pull the rig up and onto the highway. We all probably left there feeling 10 feet tall, but boy it was fun!
