Also watch the rating on the shackles. Four Wheel Parts sells Smitybilt shackles that are rated at one ton and I think they charge $11-12.00 for them. Go to a tractor supply house and you can get the galvanized ones for about $7.00-$8.00 that are rated at 4-3/4 tons.

Thanks Coke - I skimmed while at work and missed your post.

I personally have a tow hitch with a 3 1/2" drop, a d-shackle, and two cheap monkey wrenches. When it's time for the trail, I flip the hitch upside down, remove the ball, and insert my shackle.

To state the obvious, it's so you can have all your different ball sizes on one tongue. Just turn and re-insert depending on application.

As for recovery, this is still not that great of an idea - the hook, since it isn't a closed loop, has the potential for straps slipping free. It's better, but a fully enclosed ring is where it's at.

Don't buy that thing please, for all the Tacoma owners out there we beg you not to buy that!

Do you have a need for different size balls? Do you really foresee the need for that hideous thing on the back of your truck?

I like the 2nd harbor freight option. It's not for a heavy duty use but it'll be there if you need it. And cheap to replace if it gets stolen.

I think it's completely retarded they even make different sizes. 1 7/8", 2", 2 5/16", who the hell came up with this?? Make a 2" or 3" (not both), and standardize the whole freaking thing. What type of weanus needs a 1 7/8"??

FYI Guys these straps are a good deal! Because a cheap 20' foot at Harbor Freight is still $30 and not as good of quality and rated low. These are rated at the correct amount for our trucks. When someone is stuck and you have to jerk them to pull them out some of the cheaper ones break because it more the the amount of them.

Glad I could make you laugh a little. In all seriousness I can't say it's a bad product, but to make an academic point, I would not use it because I would want my receiver to be solid metal like the warn receiver.

The crippler from the pictures shows that it's hollow, and therefore not as strong. But to each his own, if you really like it then that's what matters most.

    Solid metal receiver:
