Couple things about this that are intriguing over Maxtrax, for now at least. They are upgraded, so maybe the breaking issue is obsolete (and the guy in the YouTube vid said they basically hit the Treds with 4 Cruisers at speed - that's a lot of weight on any piece of plastic), there is a lifetime warranty, and I can get something at least similar (and maybe better than Maxtrax) for $180, saving at least $120 from Maxtrax.

That said, definitely want to know what happens to my monies if they don't reach their goal.

I also found this helpful faq on the site re: how payment is done, when you're charged, etc. just took a screen clipping of it. If you click on the green "Back this Project" link, it shows you the packages. To answer @ramonortiz55 question, it definitely doesn't appear to be cumulative.

I know what kickstarter is because my wife started one to help with a campaign she wanted to do to help women out. Just didn't know the ins-and-outs of it. Anyhow, I bit the bullet and decided to try this out. If it goes south, well, I'll blame my youth ;) The fact that I can retract my contribution up to Dec. 9th allowed me to get in while the price is still low ($120 U.S. with free shipping) and back out if I start to feel uneasy about it. Plus, they don't charge you unless they meet their goal of enough backers.

I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

Hahaha! Sure thing. This one isn't nearly as risky as the RTT group buy I did last year. That one was real scary. Basically ordered direct from China with 9 other awesome TW guys and one heck of an OP. We were all either going to get the deal of a lifetime on an RTT or all burn together. Luckily, we all got the deal of a lifetime!

So which one are you going to back @ramonortiz55?? I've been thinking about getting a set of these. Didn't know anything about name brand or anything. Just saw them used once on TV show...and liked what I saw. The show was about 5-6 teams racing across Alaska...over a week or so of time. 2 teams had 4Runners...but both were crap. One was a 4cyl...no power...idiot driver/co-drive! The other was a 2nd gen w/ 6cyl...no power, always played it safe. Anyway...the team that won had all the gadgets...I think they drove an older V-8 powered Jeep. One of the gadgets they used was a set of these.

Anyway...I'm intrigued by this. Never been a part of a "Kick starter"...be honest never heard of one before. So if they meet their goal, they collect your money...and then you just hope and wait for 4 months to see if they deliver the item you backed. I think I'm game. If they don't produce the product...Hell, it won't be a total loses! My wife and I have always wanted to go the Australia. While she lays on the beach...I'll hook up with a couple of my Five'O buddies. They'll help me track the SOB's down and collect my property, get a refund....or get my monies worth another way.

So what do you do from here??

Thanks Ramon for making me aware of this!!

I was reading this thread before I went to work, and I have seen kickstarter work before. They usually refund your money if the product doesn't go into productions. I have heard that MaxTrax are a lot better than the Recovery Treds, and my brother in law has a set of MaxTrax. I have to see if I can some how buy them off of him. This is a pretty sweet deal, might jump on board if I can't get the MaxTrax.

Just had time to watch the video from the KS site, which is nicely done. It appears that the product they will be releasing will be different than the one first tested and reviewed. It seems that they have done some homework and made some changes.
May have to consider these. Would be great to have another side by side done with the MaxTrax and the new and improved Treds.

I know the show you are taking about. They actually had a set of Maxtrax.

I would be entertained if they did another I depth comparison of the two  the new, thinner design could mean the new boards will flex better this resist cracking and breaking but only time will tell. If they wanna send me a set I would gladly head out to the park for a weekend and do a thorough review but they won't be getting my money anytime soon.

Yeah. It looks like from the video that they came up with a new plastic mixture that will fix the breakage issue.
Will be interesting to see what happens when these hit the market.
