My son works with a couple of the guys who were in it so we road over to the brewery, some nice trucks

I think the style of event needs to be ingrained more in the competitors... A lot of teams misunderstood the concept of an Overland style Road Rally, and treated the event like a head-to-head race, on public roads.. Many of the locals called the Sheriffs dept at Richland Rd, the Mile high campground staff threatened to call the cops, the Smoky Mountain National Park ranger talked with one of the time keepers about the teams speeds, and a local on the last Bonus section in Tellico Plains blocked the trail with his personal vehcle..

 

we all may have run Richland for the last time.....They were Tearing It Up through smokey mountain park as well. I was a time checkpoint in the park. I had a park ranger come chew my ass out for what they were doing. of course when you mention to the teams to slow down, its never them, its always the other guys .... I told him to please go write tickets. Speed limit 20, hauling ass at 50+ if I had to guess. more stress needs to be put on this next year. maybe radar guns at checkpoints ???? get clocked over the speed limit, penalty for team ..... @Overland_Tennessee

 

Tough to go slow when you have to race the clock. It's a race it's part of it

It is a race. If I get stuck in traffic (which was a big issue), I have to make up the time. A 30 minute trail took 2 hours because people have no idea how to Offroad and ride the whole thing in 4lo. Have to make that up

 

rules clearly stated it wasn't a race. it's a rally. I didn't even participate and I understand that lol. the time was based upon speed limits being followed, and people blocking (going slow) on the trails was discussed. you have to find a way to make it up by not speeding on roads and in parks, duh?

 

everyone will get stuck in traffic, everyone will go though same construction zones. everyone will have traffic at cades cove. it will even out. everyone please send feedback over to Zack, so he can improve on this for next year. i think the times between stages should be doubled from actual so teams have to slow down, and have time for stops, and multiple shits, and people getting sick, and lunch, and ....................

 

Next year we will compete but literally will screw around every day and probably roll in last just to avoid any issue

 

Maybe to avoid issues he should have it setup where we do paved road sections and only off-road at off-road parks. Aop, windrock, gulches stuff like that. Hell we were almost there. Pulls thrown in coppinger cove. Or the nemo tunnel.

 

I think there should also be some sort of discussion before the rally starts about when to be in 4lo. I run into this a lot (mostly with Jeeps) but as soon as some people get off of pavement, they're in 4lo when it's no even necessary. I've been on Tray Mountain road on the easy side behind people running the whole damn thing in 4lo, it gets frustrating.

 

Zack set the times, he was stuck in traffic, he stopped for lunch, he did not speed..

 

That's personal choice when and how you use the capabilities of your vehicle.

 

But when he did it and scouted, did he account for a bunch of people in 4lo and slinky effect created by people not knowing what they are doing?

 

I understand and respect that, but you have to be reasonable here. How many times have you been held up by someone running flat hardpacked road in 4lo? It happens all the time down here in Florida and I've experienced it numerous times on my ventures up into north Georgia.
