Well the participants we talked with said it was a special points challenge and was awarded points for going up it. The videos show you used an illegal trail on FS land and had a person at the top recording people who used it.

Look I'm sure everyone had a good time. But lets be honest most of the participants used this as a race. There is a reason they showed up early. That was because they were speeding. I would think you would have gotten the hint when you saw everyone having to replace brake pads. How about posting their times and mileage they used and see what their average speed was through checkpoints. You have to change the format if your going to do something like this. It would be pretty simple to do. Just disqualify people who come in under time. Even then your still going to have people speed if they have a breakdown or get slowed by traffic. Honestly the best idea would to do this strictly on private land. That being said no insurance company is going to provide you with coverage for an event like what happened this past weekend. You have got to rethink your plan. My goal isn't to get the event in trouble. I'm an avid 4x4 enthusiast as well. I just know all to well what happens when Police get called, people are talking about people driving 50 mph+ on FS roads and using bypasses and tearing up trails that were never designed to be challenging. That area already has a bullseye on it lets not make it any bigger. If you want to do the right thing how about contacting the FS and explain what happened on the road in question and ask them if you can fix it. Mistakes happen. It was your first event like this. Do the right thing.

    :notsure:

I saw the comment about brakes, was that just on older vehicles? Seems like an odd thing to have go out on you.

Unless your hauling ass down 232 (Tail of the Dragon) with mud/grit in your brakes lol. Wish I could have made it to the rally, hope there's another next year

I've ran it on my old SV650 and a E350 delivery truck. Had fun with both :)

No it was due to the descent of nearly 3500 feet that killed them

Gotcha. Makes sense, I guess having a manual would be easier in that aspect, just Jake brake.

I just read the vehicle requirements. It says stock clearance won't cut it. So does that mean that a stock taco TRD off-road need not apply?

check out the tag #RedClayRally on Instagram to see what some of the guys went thru. This tag will show you some of the best tidbits from the route. The really nasty stuff was bonus routes.. a lifted Subaru didn't make it, nor did a Land Rover LR3. Just be ready to choose good lines, or lift your truck before then...
