Hello. I'm going to CO in September and have a couple of trails I'll be taking that I'm slightly concerned with. The first being Red Cone Pass. I hear the ascent is fairly standard, but the descent to Webster Pass is quite steep and difficult. I'm mostly new to off-roading, but I have been around it in one way or another (dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, etc.) Should I be worried to tackle red cone? My truck is lifted 2.5", aggressive all-terrains, Off-road model with rear locker...

    Thanks

I pulled these pictures from our CO trip report last year. Here's the full report (Red Head Down), and a link to the specific day (Redhead Down #6: Chihuahua, Webster, Red Cone and Radical!). Read as much as you'd like and feel free to ask questions.

For Red Cone - you don't need to worry about the descent, I'd say. It is quite steep, but put the truck in 4Lo, stay in 1st gear, and use the brakes as little as you need to.

This is the descent, it's steeper in person.

The ascent isn't too bad either, there's really only one or two obstacles that add difficulty, and with a locker, you should be fine with a good spotter:
