Red Dead Redemption 2

Got this game over the weekend. Taking me a little while to get my bearings but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Really impressed with the detail of this game and the amount of stuff you can do. Should get plenty of enjoyable hours out of it.

Sooo....I'm not sure if it's a turning point in the game or an update that I got while my PS4 was sitting in rest mode, but I played through "the island" last night and the sound track and cut scenes seemed to drastically improve when I returned.

 

I have been playing online for a few days and it has been going pretty good so far.

Tonight I spent over an hour getting 3 star pelts and carcuses, get to the butcher and some little DB kills me from behind.

This is the same reason I quit playing GTA online.

 

That’s a good idea if you are a dick. Sit at the butcher and just kill people as they show up.

I haven’t tried since the beta. Do you see a bunch of other players as you are going around? When I played the first day I didn’t see anyone.

 

Yes there are enough that there is always a few on the radar.

For the most part the dicks are hanging around the towns killing each other. Others are roaming around doing the missions or random hunting.

I have been getting with good groups doing missions, I had to pick up a headset with a mic so I could join the chatting. Got tired of where did that guy go? While
I was doing something critical to the mission.

I have had a few idiots jump me out of nowhere but it's not as bad a GTA online, so far.

 

Oh if you play online this weekend Jan 25-27 you are supposed to get 5 gold bars for free.

I did get two messages saying I got them but they have not shown up in my inventory yet.

That is a lot of money for online. Everything is expensive online.

I bought a Chestnut Arabian, Varmint rifle and improved my pistol so I'm broke again.

 

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't played in over a month, but will log on today just to get the gold bars.

 

I believe that you will get the bars on Tuesday. I think that is what I recall from the update notes

 

Went online for the free bars. Turning into exactly what I was afraid of and why I don't play gta online. A total shitshow try to play a mission get shot. Try to look at the map get shot.

 

I was a huge fan of the first one but I just cannot get into this one. I am sure the story is great but ..

 

Just finished the 2nd epilogue.

Thought that was the best game I've ever played

I fully agree but if you can stay away from the larger towns as much as possible you can do OK. I was doing just that until I could buy a rolling block rifle. I bought a varmint rifle first so I could get as many birds as possible first to get the 100 different animal kills (48 out of 100 so far) I also did more side missions to make enough to get the rolling block. I will do more until I can upgrade it fully before doing group events. The stock rifle they give you sucks. It's not fun when you have to use 10 or more bullets to make a kill.

I wanted a fast horse first so that was my first priority but now I want good firepower for the team events. Hopefully I will get that gold soon so I can fully upgrade my weapons.

 

How is this game? Been away from a solid place to play these new games and wasn't sure if I should even pick it up once I get back.

 

If you're a fan of Rockstar games and liked the last one I'd recommend it. Or if you're like me and just dig the outlaw/cowboy stuff you'll like it too.

I'd also recommend getting the physical disc versus going digital. Download would take until the end of time. Game is yuuuge.

 

The download did not bother me but the clunky game play mechanics did. Graphics are amazing though.

 

It frustrates the hell out of me that I thought I was doing so well during the main campaign. I was completing every side mission I came across, treasures, hunting, gambling and so on. When I finished the story I only had 38% complete. Womp, womp… I'm working my way through the compendium and the challenges now and still only at 42% with a whole two weeks dedicated to just that. As far as I can tell, even if I do everything that doesn't require me to go online I'll only get to 50% at best. Me and a close friend (the only other person I know that shares similar taste in game choices) always have an ongoing challenge to do more than the other in the game we're playing.

The closest I got to 100% was on the last Tomb Raider. I got 99%- the final trophy was an online challenge that I didn't feel like completing.

 

I'm still getting used to the controls. Not sure why they did it the way they did but I'm not a developer so.. I've been really impressed with the scenery though.
