I still love my RTT. Bought it for my trip out West to save me tons of time, and a little money, and was gonna think about selling it after. Believe I'm going to keep it for another year or 2 to see how much usage I continue to get out of it.

I like my ground tents. Can't justify a rtt with my already poopy mpgs. 4 banger getting a whole 15mpg...

My tent literally has 0 effect that I've noticed in mpg. I'm sure it has to have some but not anything dramatic that I have noticed at all. I don't keep it on much in the winter months but when it was on during warm weather it wasn't enough for me to notice any change. I get 16ish mpg anyway. If I didn't have the tent I think I would go the pull out storage way with a mat on top of it under a camper shell. Just don't think there is enough storage space, and if I need to haul something in my bed, I really wouldn't want to take the shell off, take the bed storage out, and fool with all of that. With the tent I can lift it off in 5 minutes and be good to go.

Edit*** I do however notice how much better the Dakars ride with that extra weight on the rear over nothing. Suckers are hard as a rock (kinda like my ddddiiiii ....) with no weight in it.

Just depends on group size really. I like the spot of mtn springs where we all camped last April and Myles barfed out his hammock. Same spot breezy and I camped in feb. There is also the apot with the big rock overhang by the creek, we were at the spot in December with that jeep run. Honestly doesnt matter to me really. Its whateves.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Rando drop in for me. But saw the icom thread pic in the main feed.

X2 on you can't go wrong with the.big names at that price range. X2 on APRS.

Another way to do it would be to look at the Kenwood Tm-v71a @ $350

There's a device you can get for the kenwood that will show on a map anyone else using APRS service and you can also do things like plot routes, text message, get information from local weather stations and more. Just pairs the radio to your cell phone or tablet.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone. I just want to buy a good unit once. I don’t want to have to buy this stuff twice.

Also, what nav software do people use?
I have Hema and used it somewhat successfully at LBL, but it’s just slow to load.
