    I'm gonna have to be honest- unless you're actually gonna be super into the radio hobby, the baofeng handhelds are more than sufficient for our wheeling, and we use MURS. I've got the license, and never used it. But, it's not my money or my truck.

    Mostly, I like the idea of it, also on some of my road trips, I go into the middle of nowhere with just my truck and normally no cell service. Cheap insurance policy in my opinion.

    Just bear in mind that it's not a land mine- you still need some semblance of LOS to a repeater to be able to talk to anyone. But depending on how far in the middle of nowhere you are, that may not be an issue
