My truck is a 2WD, so fixes that pesky problem.

I'll be honest and say I hate letting my wife drive it. She's an excellent driver but always totally fuxxors my stereo. First time I dealt with it and the next time I set it to her radio station and volume, begged her not to touch it. She messed it up worse. I threatened to remove the faceplate next time she drives it, haha

My wife has a SUV she loves (CRV) and is afraid of my truck. She doesn't know how to use most stuff in the head unit. I had to change the settings on her audio cause she said she had such a bad radio. I just raised treble and maxed bass now she's happy. Life's good right now.

Mine has a Rav4 and can grasp the basics of that, I have an aftermarket radio in mine. I've explained nicely if she messes around with it and then won't remember what she did it's a project to figure it out...and if she sees a screen come up that's not familiar just don't touch anything. Says she will do that and doesn't.

This is why I only drive my truck. If everything is still working I wouldn't worry, but understand some premature wear did occur. I'd change the transfer case fluid and call it a day.

Well, thanks for the advice from the majority of you!

My wife is the best, regardless of what she does or doesn't do in the truck. She is a competent manual driver as her Subaru is also a stick shift. She also does often make me sandwiches, but not in a misogynistic "hey get back in the kitchen" type of way.

I engage 4hi on the 16th of every month and get up to about 50 mph on as straight of a road as I can find for a couple of miles. It's easy to remember because 4x4=16.

Nothing has felt wrong with it since this happened, I just couldn't remember if it rolled in neutral while engaged in 4hi or not.

Happy to have some legitimate responses, some funny responses, and even some belittling responses. When you ask, the forum provides.

    None.
I hope your truck isn’t ruined, because my wife did the same thing last week. She had been driving it for a few days while her car was in the body shop. I went to drive it, and it felt like the brakes were dragging. Sure enough the rotary knob was in 4hi. Been driving since and seems ok….

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
I believe it. I figured the knob would have at least had some kind of push/pull lock to turn.

To be fair, I constantly try turning the truck on/off by pressing the 4x4 knob. It's location is irritating to me.

Should be where the start button is.

That "4x4=16" is a good tip! I'll remember that. I also engage 4H on a long straight section of road I have near me on a rainy day about once per month. That has been easy this year since it has been a very rainy spring and summer this year so far. When I get back home in the driveway, I'll engage 4L a few times to exercise the mechanisms and the ADD actuator, and move the truck back and forth about 20 feet. When I think of it I also just move the dial back and fourth between 2H and 4H a few times to keep things loose. I don't experiment with 4L away from home.

Don't forget to inspect the actuator vent hoses at least every time you change the oil. Mine are still original and look fine, (no cracks at the ends which are common) but ten years in now and they make me nervous. I'm going to take a few days in the fall to inspect the routing on the two of them and see if I can manage it myself.

I miss the days gone by when we had a 96 Tacoma in the driveway, which was a 4x4 and a 5 speed. So many people assumed it was mine and the Oldsmobile sedan was hers. Not only was the opposite true, I can't drive standard and she loved her truck.
