Redarc brake controller question

I just installed the Redarc Liberty brake controller on my 2021 Tacoma TRD Offroad. My question is should the controller light up blue at least momentarily when not hooked up to a trailer. Don’t have a trailer with trailer brakes to hook up to at the moment but will Friday but wanna make sure my controller is working. It doesn’t light up at all right now. I followed the instructional video from Redarc carefully. Any help would be appreciated.

So if you press the Redarc dial in without a trailer hooked up yours still doesn’t light up at all even momentarily?

 

If I press the button inadvertently (without a trailer hooked), on the redarc, it will light up blue. only way to test if you have trailer brakes, is to test the brake circuit on the trailer harness pin on the truck. you may just not have the switch illumination circuit wired correctly but, you need to verify. good luck. You will get a momentary blue when pressed without trailer.

 

If you really want to test it. Press and hold it in and press the start button on your truck. If it starts, it works

 

Thanks for all the responses. I’ll try and see if the truck starts while holding the dial in and go from there.

 

Side note I had mine installed for a few months before I used it.

The first time I hooked up a trailer it still did the slow color change for several miles before it calibrated the controllers position to do proportional braking mode.

After checking the ground and then making sure I had power at the plug I pulled the lower dash back off and realized it would work much better if I plugged up both ends of the cable from the brake controller to the switch. ‍Working now!
