Ha ha. No sir. I had a gift card to 4WP that came with my tires that was about to expire. Figured these would be handy to have here and there.

The only thing I have planned for them as of now is to put a couple on the roof rack to hold my fishing poles, kayak paddles, and such.

Do the nuts sit low enough so they won't scratch whatever you put into them? Hard to tell from the angle of your pictures.

The nuts sit perfectly flush with the bottom of the fist. So, they will contact whatever the fist is holding. Will it scratch it? I don't know. I not worried about it. You could probably put some rubber hose or something over the nut if you wanted.

Spent the last two days on the Caney Fork. It was a nice little 10 or so mile float from Happy Hollow to Stonewall Access. We set up camp at the Smith Fork confluence along the way.

It was great to get out and explore with a couple friends. Major props to my beautiful wife for holding down the fort solo.

Me too. We will go again. It was really nice. We took our time, fished, caved, cooked, and had a blast. It was perfect weather for sitting around a fire.

On the other side, I think I am done with tent camping. I hate setting them up and taking them down, then letting them dry when i get home. I also broke the door zipper last night.

I was so envious of my buddy's hammock setup. Easy up, easy down, easy storage. I think I'll be investing in one.

I can get you set up right. I've been hammock camping for years now. I have extra gear if you want to try some things out before you buy.

    What are the basics?

    Hammock, straps, tarp. What else?

My buddy had some sort of thermal yoga-mat looking thing he put in the bottom of the hammock.

Like most things in life, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Mine is having a down top quilt and down under quilt. The under quilt hangs below the hammock to insulate you from the air. In a hammock below 60ish degrees, you will freeze because of all the thermal loss to convection and body heat radiation. Some people do like your friend and put a pad in the hammock and lay on that with a quilt or sleeping bag on top of them. I did that for a long time until I could afford the under quilt. A bugnet is also a near necessity here in late spring through early fall. Some hammocks have the bugnet attached, while others have them as a separate item. For your tree straps, remember that nylon stretches and polyester doesn't. A tight hammock at bedtime with nylon straps will have your ass on the ground by morning. I prefer whoopie slings for suspension because they're small, lightweight, and easy to use. They're made of amsteel, which is the same thing synthetic winch lines are made from.

Things to figure out for yourself are whether you want to use it backpacking, car camping, kayak/canoe camping. If you want to use it for mild weather or all year long. Do you plan on being out in downpours, or might get caught out in the occasional unexpected shower. Good, cheap, and light...pick two.
