How terrible it is on the hwy with 33s/5.29 will determine how soon that project will be. Have a lot of life left in the KM2s. We’ll see. I don’t think it’ll be that bad because the truck doesn’t see 60 mph+ but about once a month. Haha

How necessary was it for you to remove the fender when you tubbed? Is it required or just convenient?

well you end up cuting most of the lower part of the fender out anyways.

But you have to take it off to be able to cut the lower door jam area which is the worst part to cut as it has like 10 lays of metal pressed together.

Then you have to put the fender back on and trim it to match.

Lots of cycling and checking and cutting.

it is a major PITA. But worth it if you use it

also, worth noting, if you plan on running a real 12.5 wide tire, get it now to check. The wider tire swings into the body more so requires a bigger hole then a a315. If your just gonna go with 315s and never change don't worry about it.

Already got my 315s, don't think I'd ever get a 12.5. Thanks for the heads up though

The difference in width between a 315 and 12.5" tire is negligible at best. You'll have more variance between manufacturers than you will the actual sizes. Look at the KM2 for example. 315 is 12.3" on an 8.5" wheel. A 12.5" is 12.5" on a 10" wheel. A .2" difference between tires isn't much, a tenth of an inch per side. Take into account that they're measured on different sized wheels, and the difference becomes even less. A Cooper 315 is 12.6" on an 8.5" wheel, larger than the BFG 12.5" tire on a wider wheel. It seems tire manufacturers aren't too concerned with consistency. Bottom line is, get the tire you want and do what it takes to make it fit.

    well..you say that...

But every time i sit next to a truck with 315s...they are narrower..and a bit taller then my 35x12.5r15s.

    AND

you can literally go through every build on here that has 35s or 315s and look at their tub jobs and the evidence is clear. Guys running 35s have HUGE holes cut out. Guys running 315s have taller narrower holes.

Either way you are right, the consistency is non existent ...sadly.

But from everything I have see, 315s are always narrower, sure not by much, but a half inch is a LOT when you are trying to fit a tire in a wheel well that 33s need massaged to fit. No different then why people add a 35'' tire. Its only 1'' gained of ground clearance...if that. Yet here we are.

1'' is a mile in our world of vehicle mods.

Did you have to pay shipping there and they pay shipping back to you?

In a round about way, yes. They emailed me the fedex labels. Fedex charges them then they add that on the cost of the diffs. Free shipping back to me once completed. Said they get a cheaper rate than you could get on your own.

If you do yours this way, two 5 gal buckets w/lids are perfect for shipping them. Used a few old towels to pack them in tight.

Sweet! Sounds like a pretty great deal to me. I will eventually, how soon will be determined by how bad 35s on 4.10s is. Appreciate the info
