Tim? Yeah, second gen problems
We'll see how bad it is for me. I got really light tires so the only concern is RPM

Ah, gotcha. Well fingers crossed then haha, I doubt I'll have gears by LBL so that will be the test. 5.29s are coming at some point though
Tires are only 10lbs more than my 265s and way lighter than most 315s so I'm hoping that alleviates a lot of the stress on components

FWIW I ran the stock gears on 35's for a month or so. Definitely sluggish but not terrible. Being a manual definitely made it easier.

    4.10s and 35s...sucks.

You can get around town fine though. Highway driving...forget it.

Also your tranny will hate you, hope you have a scan gauge to keep an eye on your tranny temps. You'll really be straining it.

Why would you be straining the trans? RPM's will be hella low. If there was not enough power you could just downshift to 4th or 3rd, no?

Don’t tell TW that. According to forum logic you aren’t geared right until you can pull the Eisenhower pass in 5th gear at 75

Sure rpms are low, but the load on the engine and tranny is VERY high with tires that big.

He's a double cab so he has an auto.

To get the truck moving he will slip a LOT. He also wouldn't be able to use overdrive at all on the highway, there is no way, so he would have to stay in 3rd and thus defeating the "low rpms". The auto will be sweating bullets with 4.10s and 35s. Totally driveable around town. But your asking for major problems offroading and on the highway.

Its not about low rpms its about how efficient the truck uses the power. This is why everyone that has a heavy offroad rig puts off regearing over and over until they finally do it and are suddenly surprised at how much power they have back and WOW gain a few mpg back! Even though their rpm is higher. The load on the engine is less due to lower gearing so it doesn't have to work as hard. Same goes for the auto tranny.

I mean...i love being able to accelerate in 5th up steep hills on the interstate...who wouldn't?

Only other truck i can do that is is my single cab V6 tacoma...and thats cause it weighs nothing and has more power than truck

I've thought about it. But then i drive 48 miles to and from work everyday..doesn't seem bad then. And makes me drive more relaxed so i don't go race truck all the time :anonymous:

    ahhh...the great debate..

Owning both and wheeling in both..I still prefer the manual personally.

Never stopped me yet. :burnrubber: Yes it makes it easier, but then you gotta worry about overheating the tranny when crawling.

Yeah I don't agree with that. I just love driving a manual. Just that alone makes it better to me in every way. Is it harder? Yes. Does it take more work? Yes. Can just anyone hop in a manual and trail ride well/at all? No. I happen to love it being harder and more work. I can also drive very well. I've never questioned whether an auto would be better. I see a manual as my only option. You just gotta love the manual game.

I like the look all the auto guys give you when you stall it on the trail.

Also like sitting in my driveway with the engine off slamming gears while making race car sounds.
