My DD is a boring vanilla auto. Great for traffic and long trips. But there is something so satisfying about driving the manual on the trail. The need to finesse yourself up obstacles takes more work, most definitely but I really enjoy it. I don't wheel because it's easy, I wheel because it takes skill to control a vehicle a certain way. And it's a skill I have been perfecting over the years. Also when you get to fast sections of a trail, slamming through gears gives me a boner. That or downshifting into a corner and roosting.

But like you said @Snowy to each their own.

I use to drive that road a couple times a month with 4.10s and 295s.

Speed limit is 65, only way I could pull that was in 3rd gear at like 4200rpm for 15 minutes straight.

It's all I could do to hold my 7.3 in third while towing the Tacoma through there :D

On 25E and 119 going to Harlan, there is extensive use of third gear and foot to the floor with the Tacoma...with 5.29's and 37's

    :spy: crawlbox...

Yeah for sure. That was my point. I drive one because I love it. Others don't for whatever reason. All good with me.

Not much more satisfying then kicking the clutch on a gravel road while getting sideways around a corner. I also kick my clutch when rock climbing on trails. :gossip: Don't tell anyone though. Someone will tell me I'm gonna destroy something. I'll tell them "yeah."

better keep it in 2wd at LBL. We got some fun to be had :D

Diffs arrived at ecgs safe and sound. :woot:

Aaaaannnddd... I’m now teetering on the edge of the next rabbit hole in this truck. Here’s what I’m thinking.

My plan was to keep running the 33s for a good while. However, I know once a get these gears in I’m going to be itching for 35s hard, which will require firewall tubs.

It’s winter and I don’t “need” my truck much. During the summer I can’t afford to have the truck down for more than a day or two because I still do the lawn care thing on the side. So the tub job will either be now or a year from now.

Also, my tires still have a ton of life in them now, and I think would be pretty easy to sell.

Top contenders at the moment in no particular order are

    Hankook RT03
    Cooper ST pro
    Interco trxus mt
    Interco irok ND

Again, just a thought for now. We’ll see.

I'd veto the interco tires if you drive it alot in the summer around town.plus aren't those usually like 36x10?

It sounds like you need a 5 lug taco to take over lawn care :p 35s are expensive.

Nah. The ND is a 315/75/16 and the trxus is a 35/12.5. I don’t drive it a lot. I just drive it often. Live within 4-5 miles of everything. Benefit of living in a tiny town. Haha.

IROKs would look badass on your truck.

Since you're tubbing anyway, go 36!

Nah. I feel like 35s will be pushing the limits of what this little truck’s components will handle anyway.

The irok ND is a tamer tire than the original. More along the lines of the other tires I listed. They actually describe it as an “all terrain” on their site. Even though it’s probably the most aggressive tire on my list.

I mowed lawns for like 12 years as a kid and into college. Was fun. I kinda miss it.
