So you need a shaft in the hub because without it your wheel bearings will blow apart. But you need to disconnect the wheel from the diff. Since you have add, the passenger side is disconnected when 4wd is off but the drivers side always is turning the spiders in the diff. So cut the cv after the bearing cage so it can still go into the hub and put the tulip side in the diff to keep gear oil from leaking out. I’ll dig up pics later if I can or check my build from June/July 2016

    Monte’s beating me today lol

First and second gens need cv’s to keep the bearings together.

To be clear, in the event of a nuked diff. The "2wd" kit is only needed on the driver side, correct?

You can still remedy your mistake and put a lunchbox locker in without having to mess with the R&P setup! Super cheap too.

It's a tossup whether spiders or CV's are weaker on first gens. Spiders will go if you are one wheel peeling it and the tire suddenly stops. The CV will go if you are bouncing with some steering angle in it.

I think having a lunchbox locker is better than open, it removes the spider gears from the equation and lets you be so much more controlled instead of bouncing around and putting a shock load on the drivetrain.

Yes! This. Love my Spartan, and I got it for like $200. Part of their advertising is the point that it strengthens the diff by replacing the spider gears. In some cases a front locker can save CVs as long as you are using the proper amount of throttle. You break CVs by suddenly stopping them when they have too much wheelspeed. Knowing when to slow down or brake to stop your wheels from going 90-nothing is just another skill to learn.
And the CVs should be the fuse, as stated before, the diff is a PITA to change and usually more expensive than axles. Just my thoughts here.

Are the gears affecting the speedo now? Tach? My corrected speed on my scangauge?

It feels sooooo good, but what I’m feeling and what I’m seeing on my gauges don’t line up. Either way, I’m so pumped. Can’t wait to get these things broke in so I can give her hell.

Your speedo will be way off. You'll be way slower than normal.

    Tac is unaffected

    Yes..lots of torque! It's awesome. Try 4lo :D

You'll eventually get over it and wish you had a bit more balls past 3000rpm. That's where the supercharger comes in
