It was a crazy find. I literally decided to sell my second gen one night. Got on Craigslist and there it was.
Haha. That’s crazy coincidence. Yours even had 2nd gen wheels too.

I’m somewhere around 355-360k on the Tacoma, 150k on the F250 and 150k on the Corolla. I’m significantly down in fleet size since I sold my Speed3 and gave my Accord back to the company to drive the F250 every day in the last year...My wife was pissed when we had 6 vehicles total including my parts truck I briefly had.

Semi-local deals only in Tacoma's. Has a first gen DC with 55k on it for $16k!! That's a lot for one that age.

It is and it’s not. The age doesn’t hurt anything. It actually helps with value to the right group of consumers. Not only do you have a good truck, but It’s also now an extremely rare commodity. He will get close to his asking price, assuming it doesn’t have major rust problems or something. Someone will pay it.

I’d honestly take a within reason higher mile newer vehicle than an older one that has sat around. Most vehicles like to be driven regularly and time/weather takes its toll on plastic and rubber trim bits that always seem to be made of unobtainum

Maybe so. Haven’t experienced any of that with mine though.

Still doesn’t change the fact that someone will definitely pay big money for a low mileage first gen. I know this for a fact. I’ve seen me do it. Haha.

Your typical truck buyer won't pay that, but someone must be, or else he wouldn't be in business. He was my buyer for my stock rear bumper, might see if he's interested in my front when I get the plate bumper on.

Have to agree with you here.

Sometimes papaw and granny vehicles aren't all that just because they have low miles.

My point isn’t that low mileage 1st gens are “worth” a lot of money. It’s that they do sell high often, and that’s a fact.

Go look at what 200k mile clean 1st gens sell for. It’s nuts. It’s also nuts that a +/- 20 year old taco with 50k Miles can sell for $15k. As long as people are willing to pay a premium for whatever reason, they will continue to sell high.

Nuts or not, it is what it is. If you want one, you better be ready to pay accordingly. If not, sit back and laugh at these idiots paying out the ass for old trucks. Haha.

Btw, I paid $13,500 for mine. Why? Because it was exactly what I wanted. 4cyl, 4x4, manual everything, 9/10 condition, very low miles, and not one speck of rust. The chances of finding that again were astronomical, so I bought it.

That makes sense to me, definitely. Just like any other rare vehicle find.
If the market is there, then that's just economics. My truck was exactly what I wanted, too, a 4x4 Tacoma. I didn't do any real research, just their famed reliability. Kinda sad I paid exactly double what you did for a 2014 SR with 24,500 miles in June of 2016.

    I flock to beaters. :D

My MO has been to be the third owner and buy at the bottom of the depreciation curve.

Funny thing with Tacoma values is that it’s all about location. In Chicagoland and northern states they aren’t worth anything unless the frame has been replaced. Any of them that are left all have rotten frames and if you DD a clean one, the frame will be junk in 5-7 years

02 Tacoma, fixed with curse words.

Ain't that the truth! I got a free 2002 Avalon with 55k on it from my grandma in law and so far the alternator has already taken a shit, replaced the blown deck lid subwoofer (damn grandma!) And I smoked the brakes on it. Needs the tires balanced as well, oh and it smells like mothballs and I can't get it out. I tell my self evreyday driving it smelling that from the comfort of the front leather bench seat (in a fucking 2002model year car!) "Geoff this was free and allows you to do cool shit too/with the tacoma".

I've put more miles on it in the first month I've had it, and easily quadrupled the fastest it's ever went, and the car now knows what it's redline feels like. I will say it's not a bad car for a boat and it has the radar signature of the stealth bomber when speeding by cops.

This is more or less the mentality around here.

If it isn't an "American" brand or doesn't "roll coal" :puke: then it must be junk. Toyota has a reputation for longevity and reliability, but it also has a rep for rusting body panels and frames around here too. Double edged sword.
Like I said, that old dude must know something, or be very good at fixing them up. He only has Tacos and sells them for a good price!

By the looks of one or 2 of these results, he's sold a couple in the last week and only has a couple on hand: https://www.google.com/search?q=imp...7j35i39j0l4.2239j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

I had a Ford Taurus like that. It was free from my aunt after my uncle died. There is no telling how much money I put in that car. It constantly broke and I fixed it. I was in college, wife was in college, she was pregnant, and we were broke when the transmission took a shit on the interstate. Sold it to a friend who put a junkyard trans in it. Still running. haha. Apparently that was the last thing that needed fixing.

Before anyone points it out... Yes, I’m aware I decided against this a few months back. I changed my mind.
