and then we’ll all eagerly complain and remember the good ol’ days when toyota gave us a real hand brake, a solid rear axle, a reliable, normally aspirated engine, and a reliable 6 speed gearbox… (not to mention the availability of the beautiful manual gearbox).

I believe I’ll keep my taco - until a good full-electric option is available!

What is generally known.... shares a platform (TNGA-F) with the new Tundra, so expect coil springs and disk brakes front and rear. Styling will be similar to the 3rd gen with some updated styling cues that mimic the Tundra a bit. The engine is expected to be a Turbo-4, possibly with a hybrid option and eventually a full EV.

The Jeep Gladiator has a rear coil setup. Haven't heard too many complaints about that. I think the biggest problem with the Ridgeline is it's a unibody car frame

Well they can't promise anything because it's not official. But it's car and driver that seems like a pretty reliable source. Keep in mind manufacturers routinely leak information to generate excitement.

Likely 24 or 25. Toyota is still a pretty conservative company.

-Definetley a hybrid/plugin/E tacoma in the next gen. likely not a full E only V yet.
    -inline4 turbo base powerplant?
-likely new GR trim model. pro / sport trims at risk of being cut/replaced with GR?
-all expectations are to kill the manual trans. but i highly doubt it. supra GR just got a 6spd in 2022.
    -goodbye rear axel

lastly, i predict the TRD flagship color for the new gen will be a flavor of red. for GR. derp.

The most interesting aspect to the new redesign is engine format across model ranges. Right now they offer the 4cyl and 6cyl. The base SR with a 4cyl is around $28k. You have to spend a bit more to get the 6cyl. If they're going to use the same engine across the board the SR will become far more attractive. Most people bump up to an SR5 for the 6 cylinder. It'd make less sense once they put the same engine in both models.

If the SR comes with a turbo 4, making 275hp, then why spend extra for an SR5?

The rear coil setup on the new Tundra is so anemic, it has less rear travel than a 2022 Tacoma, and significantly less than the 2021 Tundra.

The new Tacoma will be built on the same design platform.

    We are working on solutions.

They will follow the same method that other manufacturers do: Base is 4, premium is turbo-4.

The base model Ford Ranger has a turbo 4, making 270hp.

    Same as their upper models...

According to some people I know, at earliest it’s 2024… they’re looking more towards 2025/2026 realistically.

Not sure if the gladiator counts. I've never seen one for sale that isn't ridiculously expensive

Note that it's the same engine across all trims with no option to get a 6, so I'm not sure where you're going with that.

Engines are priced by power output, not cylinders. So if a manufacturer wants to put the option of a turbo 4 as the premium engine (look at Mazda), then the lower engine will be the same 4 sans turbo.

Earlier you said other manufacturers put base as 4, premium as 4 turbo.

Ford's lower models are not 'sans turbo'. They all get the same engine...with the same power output.

I'm just wondering if Toyota will put the same turbo 4 in all models.....as Ford did.
