You wont regret it. It was one of the best mods I did to my truck! Along with the pop-n-lock power tailgate...LOL Just remember to measure twice and make sure you got the measurements correct before you drill!

step bit might make you go too big though.
but yes, if you use a normal drill bit, use a stopper so you don't go too deep.
And when using a stopper on the bit, make sure its fucking tight.

Ask me how I know lol.

meh in a pinch it works but not as good as a proper stop.
I use the tape all the time though at work for drop in anchors.

But ya, theres a little like pimple on my hood from where I was pushing hard, went through and ended up denting the hood from the inside. So now I have a tiny nib sticking up. Hard to see though but still. I know its there and it pisses me off.

That sucks! no one else will notice, but like you said, you will always know its there.....

BTW, I did use one of those stoppers in the past, and did the same thing as you...Thats why I dont like them anymore..

first hole worked fine. but the bit I was using sucked so got a new one. and forgot to tighten the stopper tight, so it punched through the metal no problem and I was putting a lot of force behind it then ya.

    Sucks but oh well.

I had the earlier version on my 2013 Tacoma and they worked flawlessly, and you still have the OEM "stick".

In case anyone wants a long term usage report, my truck was the one used for the 3rd gen kit development. It’s been a little over 2 years now and they’re still going strong. They work flawlessly and I’m still super impressed with them. For anyone on the fence I’ll say it’s a must do mod, and if in the future I ever buy a vehicle that doesn’t have hood struts I’ll be calling Redline Tuning for a kit.

Today, I finally installed my QuickLift struts. I'm not even going to admit how many months they were waiting for this day!
Just one photo, my engine bay is not clean enough for the photo shoot!
